Miller-Uibo and Gardiner set meet records in Shanghai

SHANGHAI, China - Bahamian athletic powerhouses, Steven Gardiner and Shaunae Miller-Uibo put on quite a show at the International Amateur Athletic Federation's Shanghai Diamond League Meet on Saturday! In record-breaking times, Gardiner won the men's 400m and Miller-Uibo won the women's 200m.

In the men's 400m, Gardiner beat Botswana's triple Commonwealth Games gold medalist Isaacs Makwala, who came second with a season's best of 44.23, while Qatar's Abdalleleh Haroun, took third with 44.51.

Miller-Uibo ran the women's 200m in 22.06 for a meet record and her season's best. Coming second was Netherland's two-time world champion Dafnee Schippers, second in her season's best of 22.34; and third was Jamaica's Commonwealth Games' silver medalist Shericka Jackson with a time of 22.36.

On May 25 and 26, the Diamond League continues with the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.  Gardiner will compete in the 200m and Miller-Uibo the 400m.
