Nassau, Bahamas - Soccer fans and those just seeking a fun afternoon with the family
whilst aiding a good cause turned out in droves this passed Sunday for the
Soccer for Haiti fundraiser at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in Nassau.
The event was organised and hosted by the Bahamas Football
Association's Senior League member clubs and their junior teams.
Teams
used to battling one another instead pulled together to provide
sporting, musical and other entertainment for over 1500 spectators. In
the first of two soccer matches, the Jamaican XI drew 1-1 with the Rest
of the World XI. This was followed by The Bahamas XI versus the Haiti
XI match, which ended 0-0 in normal time. Haiti then edged the Bahamas
5-4 in a thrilling penalty shootout. Despite the loss for The Bahamas,
everyone emerged a winner as the event was estimated to have raised
thousands of dollars for earthquake relief and rebuilding efforts in
Haiti...
