Freeport, Bahamas - The 2010 Seiko 49er and 29er World Sailing Championships took place in Grand Bahama from January 4th through 9th. It was a week of sailing with erratic conditions from day to day, and record low temperatures for The Bahamas.  The event was hosted by the Grand Bahama Sailing Club.

The Bahamas Weekly News Team was on hand to capture video footage of the opening races as well as to cover the awards presentation at the Viva Wyndham Fortuna resort.

In this video you will hear from Fried Elliott, official race photographer as he explains the race; and during the awards presentation you will hear from the Minister of Youth Sports and Culture for The Bahamas, Hon Charles Maynard; as well as Terrance Roberts of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

The video wraps up with short interviews with Nathan Outteridge of Australia, who this year placed 2nd in the 49e rs; and words from 29er Top Female Team, Ida Marie Baad Nielsen and Marie Thusgaard Olsen from Denmark.


In the 49er Gold Fleet Spain's Iker Mstinez de Lizarduy and Xabier Fernandez came out in 1st place; Australia's Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen came 2nd; and Italy's
Giuseppe Angilella and Pietro Zucchetti came 3rd.

2nd - AUSTRALIA (Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen)

1st - DENMARK (Peter Hansen and Søren Hansen)
2nd - DENMARK (Simon Karstoft and Jonathan Bay)
3rd - GREAT BRITAIN (Richard Mason and Tom Peel)

Oscar Haumann and Taus Holtug)
Top Female Team - DENMARK ( Ida Marie Baad Nielsen and Marie Thusgaard Olsen)

Overall 1st - FRANCE (Kevin Fisher and Glenn Gouron)
Overall 2nd - ARGENTINA ( Pepe Bettini and Fernando Gwozdz)
Overall 3rd - ITALY (Lorenzo Franceschini and Riccardo Camin)

The Bahamas is set to host the
2010 Star Western Hemisphere Championship in Nassau from April 10th to 17th.

The 2011 49er Worlds will take place in Australia in December 2011
The 2011 29er Worlds will take place in Argentina in January 2011
