HOLIDAY
Award-winning, teen singing sensation “Holiday” released her highly anticipated debut single “Brand New” online this past June.
Holiday collaborated with singer/songwriter Sammi Starr to create a
breathtaking, emotional ballad where Holiday shows off her resounding
voice and distinctive sound. The song is one that everyone worldwide
can relate to as it describes missing that special someone in your life.
“I’m really a big fan of the classic songs that make you feel the
love, from the likes of Etta James, Marvin Gaye and Gladys Knight, and
have therefore developed a soulful sensation to my voice, which I wanted
to show on my first record ” states Holiday.
This record is being released via Lioness Music Group, an urban,
independent record label based in Freeport, Bahamas. The uptempo follow
up single to “Brand New” is scheduled for a late summer release.
Holiday is an 18 year old, high school student, who recently won
all 3 categories she performed in during this years’ Bahamas National
Arts Festival, scoring highest in the region.

OMAR RICHARDSON
Omar Melvin Richardson was born May 5, 1982 in Nassau, Bahamas in
an area called Bain Town also known as West Street. While attending C.R.
Walker Secondary School in Nassau, he discovered and developed his love
for art. At C.R. Walker, he was greatly encouraged by his teacher, Mrs.
Ashe, to pursue art.
After high school, he continued onto the College of the Bahamas,
where he studied painting and ceramics. While attending the College of
the Bahamas, his professors Mrs. Maycock- Colebrooke and Mrs. Behagg
encouraged him to further his education abroad.
He then transferred to the Savannah College of Art and Design
(SCAD) where he completed a B.F.A. in painting and a Minor in
printmaking. He attended graduate school at the SCAD Atlanta campus
where he has completed his M.F.A. in printmaking and an M.A. in
commercial photography.

My interested is in cultural and personal symbolism and its
relation to the human condition? The human condition is very closely
related to human emotions. The key concepts in my work are memory,
reflection, loss and re-invention. I believe the combination of
photography, text and sound best reflects these interests of mixing the
media.
Because human emotions are so complex and layered I use colors,
dramatic sound, text and photography to give me a way to represent
emotion. Combining and layering these processes, allow me to show
beauty, anger and sadness in the same piece of work.

OPEN / SENIOR COMPETITION AND EXHIBITION
The Central Bank of The Bahamas is proud to announce The Open / Senior Category Competition and Exhibition component of its 28th Annual Art Competition and Exhibition to be held from Monday, 3 October to Friday, 28 October, 2011. The objectives of the competition are to identify, recognize, and encourage Bahamian visual artists. REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION To qualify, participants must be citizens of The Bahamas age 18 years (as of October 3, 2011) or older and not registered in secondary school. THEME: The theme for the 2011 Open / Senior Category is ‘SO SO BEAUTIFUL’. The Curator’s note on this year’s theme: Last year’s exhibition held the theme ‘A Mighty Push Forward’, which, although open for interpretation set a distinct visual tone for the exhibition. This year it has been decided to continue with a conceptual theme that allows for creative interpretation, giving participating artists the opportunity to engage the theme without compromising their individual studio practices . Although the theme will still be a major criterion for this year’s judges it is hoped that the optimistic tone of ‘SO SO BEAUTIFUL’ will prove to be a catalyst for efficacious work. QUANTITY: Each artist may submit only one (1) work from any of the following media: Sculpture / Drawing / Painting / Print / Collage / Other pictorial presentation GUIDELINES: The entries must meet the following requirements: 1. Each entry must be the authentic work of the participating artist. 2. Each entry must represent the annual theme of the exhibition. 3. Repeat entries will not be accepted. Artists are encouraged to submit original works completed within the last year. 4. Artists must demonstrate imagination in concept and in skillful use of materials. 5. Sculptures must be free standing or mounted on appropriate bases. 6. Paintings and drawings must be properly presented and should be framed unless the artist chooses to omit this as part of the creative process. 7. All work must be appropriate for placement within the Gallery space.There are no size restrictions on works however works that are deemed too large or cumbersome to hang may not be accepted for exhibition. JUDGING: 1. A panel of judges will select works to be displayed as well as the award winning entry. The Central Bank of The Bahamas Award will be a $7,000 cash prize. 2. The winner will also be invited to exhibit at The Central Bank of The Bahamas Art Gallery in 2012 for a solo exhibition. 3. Qualities such as originality of expression, creative use of materials and presentation, interpretation of theme are among some of the criteria considered. 4. Artists whose work are NOT accepted to be included for exhibition will be notified after the jury selection and expected to collect their work within ten days of notification.
CONDITIONS
1. All art works selected for exhibition shall remain in the custody of the Bank for the entire period of the exhibition. 2. Artists are requested to indicate whether they wish to sell their work and to submit a suggested price. All sales by The Central Bank of The Bahamas, on behalf of artists, will be considered binding. The suggested price cannot exceed the designated cash prize of $7000.00. 3. All sold pieces may be removed from the exhibition after Wednesday, 28 October, 2011. 4. All works must be collected within 10 days after the end of the exhibition. Works not collected will be suitably disposed of. 5. The Central Bank stipulates that the winning entry may become the property of The Central Bank of The Bahamas. 6. Participants therefore enter this competition in agreement that The Central Bank of The Bahamas be allowed to display winning pieces in any forum including but not limited to The Central Bank of The Bahamas’ website. APPLICATION FORMS: Entry Forms may be obtained from The Central Bank of The Bahamas, or from the Bank’s website (www.centralbankbahamas.com) or from local news papers. In the Family Islands entry forms can be collected from the Administrator’s Office or the District Education Offices of the Ministry of Education. The deadline for ALL submissions is Friday 5:00pm, September 23, 2011. Late submissions will NOT be accepted. The Exhibition Opening and Award Presentation will take place at 6:00pm, Wednesday, October 5, 2011.
