The Bahamas became a signatory to the Convention on Biological Diversity in December of 1993. Upon the signing of the convention The Bahamas recognized that biodiversity is about more than plants, animals and microorganisms and their ecosystems. We recognized that biodiversity is about people and our need for food security, medicines, fresh air and water, shelter and a clean and healthy environment in which to live.

Parallax rides a "Bahama Blue" tide to World Oceans Day

VANCOUVER, Canada - World Oceans Day has taken on new meaning to the production team at Parallax Film Productions. After spending months filming their latest project called Bahama Blue, a bunker oil spill occurred in their hometown Vancouver, just as they were delivering the final episodes.

“We just have a new appreciation for how catastrophic an event like this can be. We know how vulnerable many species are to manmade pollution,” says Director and Executive Producer Ian Herring, “It’s a shame that we only truly appreciate wildlife when it’s threatened or gone.”

The team chose a different theme for their series, though, to capture the beauty and diversity of wildlife in the Bahamas. “

The Bahamian Flag Makes it to the Top of the World

Bahamians Mark Roberts and Shaune Adderley have made it to the North Pole, braving ice and snow, while attempting one of the top twenty toughest challenges in the world.

"We'll be skiing 12 hours a day on the ice to make the 120 mile journey to get to the north pole. The average temperature will range from - 20 on a warm day, to - 40 to be the average, and we could encounter a - 80 with wind chills," said Roberts.

Adderley had never seen snow before the journey and the trip will be a big change from Bahamian temperatures of 80 degrees...
