(VIDEO) On Location at The Grand Bahama 4th Annual Health Expo

Grand Bahama Island - Ross University students take part in their inaugural community effort alongside the Shiloh Sevent Day Adventist Church at their 4th Annual Grand Bahama Health Expo held on Sunday, March 29th from 11:30 am to 6pm.

Over 60 Ross Students and 4 of the faculty members took turns during 4 shifts throughout the day manning booths providing information on diabetes, hypertension, eye and ear health and examination and breast heath and examinations.

The Expo was under the theme, "Your Health and You", and also offered vegetarian dishes, a Kids Corner, massage demos, weight and health assessments. Education on nutrition, health supplements, meat substitutes, growing your own vegetables, and how do conduct a breast exam was also offered.

Keynote speaker at the event was hospital administrator of the Rand, Mrs. Sharon Williams and guest speakers were Dr. Tamara Burke-Moree and Dr. Alvira Higgs.

In this video you will hear from the Dean of the Ross University School of Medicine, Dr. Mary Coleman.

You will also hear from Dr. Alvira Higgs, who is from Nassau's Healthy Lifestyles Center and Deli. Dr. Higgs has presented at many similar health expos.

Also in the video is local farming enthusiast, Violet Stubbs whos shows off the produce from her yard and talks about optimal planting seasons for Grand Bahama Island.

Lynn Smith presents meat substitute foods available at the Adventist Book Center in Freeport.

 "Community service and health education are the core reasons that inspired many of Ross students to pursue a career in medicine.  This partnership with Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church is the first of many opportunities for Ross University School of Medicine students to strengthen the Bahamian healthcare community,” said medical student and President of the Ross University Student Government Association Timothy Yu.
