What an exciting eight days of competition...and what an exciting finish for Team Bahamas. The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games concluded its competition segment on Saturday, August 1st, and like the overall games, Team Bahamas closed out its final day of competition in style. The team recorded a silver medal in the men's 4x400m relay and a silver medal in the 4x25m swim relay, as well as gold in the female bocce doubles and a gold medal by young Orien Clough in his tennis singles finals. "This was an awesome trip" said swimmer Deron Forbes, who captured bronze in his 25m breast stroke competition, as well as silver, as part of the 4x25m swim relay team. The games officially came to an end with the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 2nd, at the historic Los Angeles Coliseum. Team Bahamas finished the games with a total of 25 medals - 11 gold, 10 silver and 4 bronze. Swim coach Jeanine Lee who attended the World Games for the first time said "Wow!!! This was an experience of a lifetime" and Head of delegation for The Bahamas, Gilbert Williams adds "We are all very proud of our athletes. As usual, they gave it their all and left everything they had on the competition field". The team was made up of a good mix of first time athletes and coaches, along with with athletes and coaches with previous World Games experience. Team Bahamas recorded a number of firsts as this was the first time competing in Unified Sports at the World Games and also the first time winning medals in every sport that it competed in. The Team returned home on Tuesday August 4th and was greeted by a large gathering of screaming family members and friends, who gave out generous helpings of hugs, hand shakes and high fives.
