Latoya Pinder Wins The Inagural Miss Body Beautiful TCI Pageant

Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands – Latoya Pinder wins the inaugural Miss Body Beautiful TCI pageant - witnessed by a capacity crowd that was live! The 25-year-old Bahamian national captured the crown over the weekend, which took place at The Williams Auditorium in Downtown Providenicales that saw ten (10) young ladies of diversity compete for the coveted title. However, Miss Pinder, with her confident demeanor, dazzling smile, standout physique and captivating stage presentation – bested them all.

“I am truly ecstatic that I won. I prepared myself, took on board the advice and coaching provided, and went out on that stage with the knowledge that I was the winner. And with my faith and belief that I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me – I felt self assured that the crown was mine,” said a beaming Latoya of her win.

Not only did Latoya, a mother of one - won the pageant, but she also successful at winning the ‘Facebook Like Me’ award with 386 votes. Owning to this, Radio Turks & Caicos (RTC) has invited Latoya to do spot show - live on air.

The Miss Body Beautiful TCI Pageant is one that aspires women to appreciate the beauty of whom they are inside and out. As a fitness and personal growth competition, the show is geared towards empowering women to have a positive image of self, that they can accept their bodies as they are – thereby showcasing it in its entire splendor. The pageant was open to ladies 18 years of age and older, with no restriction on height, body shape, marital status or nationality. Through the event, contestants gained from the exposure and the experience, which will do well for their personal growth, development and potential modeling career.

The pageant saw the contestants compete for a LIME advertising campaign, cellular phones with service plans, resort stays, cash and numerous fabulous prizes. What is more, in the run up to the event, all contestants had the opportunity to get as fit as they possibly could with complementary training courtesy of Rock It Hot Fitness Studio. Additionally, they partook in workshops on ‘The Ultimate You! Living to Love Yourself’ hosted by Mrs Tremainne Swann-Harvey, ‘Fitness and Healthy Eating’ conducted by Miss Straudy Lightbourne - along with stage presentation by Courtney Robinson, the event’s Executive Producer.

There were three disciplines of competition before the contestants were whittled down to the top five. Namely: introduction, swimwear and fantasy wear. During each segment, they were judged on their confidence, personality, performance and overall stage presentation.

As pageant of diversity, so too were the judges. Head judge was Wenieka Ewing, Miss Turks & Caicos Universe 2004/5 who represented the Turks and Caicos Islands at the 2005 Miss Universe Pageant held in Bangkok Thailand where she won the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Award for her national costume which she designed; that, along with placing third runner’s up at the 2005 Miss Caribbean World Pageant in Tortola, BVI - winning Miss Intellect.

The remaining judges included Kazz Forbes, noted Photographer and Fashion Designer for Saint George Fashion House; Mrs Delleriece Hall, Vice President of Corporate Sales, LIME Telecommunications; John Wright, Proprietor – Wrightfully Fit Fitness Center; and Mrs Constance Lighbourne-Cousins, the first Miss Turks & Caicos (1979) to represent the Turks & Caicos at the Miss Universe Pageant in Seoul, Korea in 1980.

After the cut, making the top five were Shamarah Rigby, Janice Bernadin, Straudia Forbes, Sarantina Phlintrophe and Latoya Pinder. However, to garner a winner, the five remaining ladies had to answer the surprise question of the night: “Why do you think your body is beautiful?” This pushed the ante up a notch, as it formed the true indication of who the winner may be.

Scores generated from the question & answer segment combined with the contestants’ previous scores revealed that Latoya Pinder was the won Miss Body Beautiful TCI 2012. Janice Bernadin was named First Runner’s Up, with Straudia Forbes placing second.

The pageant featured the re-launching of Black Out, Turks & Caicos’s premier recording artists and international act. Its members, Orane Peanknock, Romaine “Trigga App” Pinnock, Eustace “E-Swann” Swann and Twiston “Twis-Flo” Florbes took to the stage twice – giving the audience a showcase they wont soon forget. Also giving a standout performance was DMV with lead signer Donessia Gardiner accompanied by backing dancers Vanessa Hall and Jelicia Skippings entertaining like none other. Audley “Illegal Poet” Astwood said two of his highly acclaimed poems. To cap things off, Dion Pratt Jnr took to the stage with two fabulous dance routines that had the audience on their feet as the young ballet and jazz dancer pumped up the volume.

The inaugural Miss Body Beautiful TCI Pageant surely surpassed the hype and gave the audience a lot more than they bargained for. The show returns next year with an additional component – “ Mr Best Body”. The dual event will take place at the end of June 2013! This double header will not be one to miss!
