The International Federation of Association Football / The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has announced today that The Bahamas has won the bid to host the 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup.

The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup is a bi-annual international beach soccer competition contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA, the sport's global governing body. NASSAU, Bahamas –The highly anticipated inaugural Popeyes Bahamas Bowl is set for noon EST at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2014, in Nassau, Bahamas. The game will be televised live on ESPN, featuring the Central Michigan University Chippewas from the Mid-American Conference against the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers from Conference USA. However, the youth of the Bahamas will not be left out of events leading up to the big game.

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Sporting greats of The Bahamas were inducted into the National Sports Hall of Fame 2014 on Friday evening, December 12, 2014 at Government House. It was the culmination of Sports Heritage Week conducted by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture during which the sports legends were treated to various activities including a special luncheon at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.

Nassau, Bahamas –Over 110 million eyes are expected to be on The Bahamas come Christmas Eve as college football teams the Western Kentucky University (WSU) Hilltoppers and the Central Michigan University (CMU) Chippewas faceoff in the first ever Popeyes Bahamas Bowl at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.

The Hilltoppers are under the Conference USA, while the Chippewas come under the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture celebrated the Class of 2014 National Sports Hall of Fame Honourees with a week of activity that included, on Wednesday, December 10, a courtesy call at the House of Assembly; participation in a C.R. Walker Secondary School “Memories of Treasured Knights” Special Assembly, where the honourees were introduced; and a luncheon at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.

At the luncheon, there was a special guest appearance by Karl McCartney, Bahamian football linebacker for the Calgary Stampeders – recent winners of the coveted ‘Grey Cup,’ the equivalent of the US Super Bowl, in the Canadian Football League Championships.

Watch a video of how Central Michigan used a fabulous way of revealing to their Chippewas players how they will be traveling to The Bahamas for the first ever Popeyes Bahamas Bowl. The team will play Western Michigan.

The program’s staff gathered the players in a room and showed six potential bowls on a screen. They narrowed it down to Detroit and The Bahamas, all while playing the Jeopardy! theme song to add to the suspense. When the players found out they were getting a winter break trip to Atlantis in The Bahamas, they went wild!

Nassau, Bahamas - The last day of the second Star Sailors League Finals in the tropical waters of the Bahamas held plenty of surprises. The direct elimination rule and shifty winds made the course extremely tactical. The defending champion, Brazilian supremo Robert Scheidt and SSL ranking list number 1, Italian Diego Negri, both paid the price. Nassau, Bahamas - Greece too will now be represented at the 2014 Star Sailors League Finals at the Nassau Yacht Club in the Bahamas between December 2nd and 7th. From October 30 to November 2, the United States Embassy and the Junior Baseball League of Nassau (JBLN) partnered to host a series of youth baseball clinics and presentations conducted by former Major League Baseball (MLB) players Elias Sosa and Armando Rios. Elias Sosa currently serves as the Latin American Coordinator for MLB International. He was a MLB pitcher for twelve years and has worked as a Minor League pitching coach for several teams. Armando Rios is a youth baseball league coach, scout, recruiter and hitting instructor for professional baseball players. He is also the instructor for MLB’s International Envoy Program for Latin America and has played for the San Francisco Giants, Pittsburg Pirates and Chicago White Sox.

Nassau, Bahamas – Over the weekend, sculling fans from both near and far gathered along the shoreline at Fort Montagu beach to see if Clayton Bain would once again emerge as the sculling champion. For the 3rd year in a row, he proved that he is indeed the champion.

“The trash talking started hours before the race,” exclaimed Lynden Johnson, Bahamian Brewery Director of Sales and Marketing. “The scullers were all bragging about their ability and the spectators wondered who would be crowned the champion. Eight Bahamian athletes competed against 72 other countries at the Judo World Juniors tournament in Miami Florida. They received draws against tough competitors with impressive records. They put up a good showing but in the end no one made it past the first round.

All fighters performed at their personal best, looking competitive in the matches and many of them lasting over two minutes of the four minute matches. “It was a good experience” said Cynthia Rahming, who fought top seeded Brazil for 2 minutes and 57 seconds. “It’s definitely an improvement on my Commonwealth Games performance against a more seasoned opponent. Star Sailors League finale returns to The Bahamas in December - Sep 26, 2014 - 5:15:36 PM

The Star Sailors League is pleased to announce that its second grand finale once again takes place in Nassau in the Bahamas between December 2nd and 7th.

Reigning champions Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada will be tackling 19 very competitive teams in this second edition, two more than last year, with a purse of 200,000 dollars on the table. The top-ranked crew at the end of the event will take home 40,000 dollars, in fact.

Aside from the winners’ prize (sponsored by the Symonette family), there will also be trophies for teams that, over the course of the year, dominated the special ranking lists drawn up by the Star Sailors League.
