Chris Brown Competes and Coaches Youth in Zurich

star Chris Brown competed in the recent World Class (WeltKlasse-Zurich)
Games held at the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich, Switzerland, August 28,
2014. Cheering him on were H.E. Rhoda M. Jackson, Bahamas Ambassador to
the United Nations Office in Geneva, and Ms. Michelle Deagoumois,
Bahamas Honorary Consul in Zurich. He placed fifth in his 400 metres
to the meet in Zurich, Mr. Brown took time out to share his experience
and provide advice to local children, 7 to 15 years, participating in a
Swiss athletic training programme with the stars called “Youth Training
with World Class.”

Ehren Hanna and Christopher Davis, two Bahamian
Beach Soccer National team players successfully completed their stint
with BSC Sable Dancers Bern in the Suzuki Swiss Beach Soccer League.
The season had already begun when the two natl’s arrived but that did
not deter the positive impact they had on their team. In their debut
match both players earned their place on the number one club team of
Hanna who is the alternate for Labaste (last year’s top
goal scorer) scored two goals and had two assist in the match. Davis
also completed the match with several assist. From there the two were
constantly in camp with the team where the trained daily sometimes twice
a day. Besides their usual club training the pair has trained with the
Swiss National Team and Paulo Balico a former World Kick Boxing

Nassau, Bahamas- The Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture wishes to
extend its most sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Samuel “Sam” Haven on
his passing. Sam, as he was
affectionately known, was one of the finest all around sportsmen that this
country has produced. Sam was also
extensively involved in sports administration.
In his early years Sam was one of the country’s leading
soccer players, a sport that he devoted a good portion of his life to. He was also very instrumental in the
formation and administration of the Bankers Softball League in which he also
engaged as a player in that league.

Nassau, Bahamas - Today the Bahamas Football Association mourns the loss of one of its
greats. Sam Haven, a Past President of The Bahamas Football Association
passed away this morning in Florida.
Sam was a
talented and skilled soccer player with the United Football Club,
formerly Nick's Body Shop, where he played with such notables as Brian
Guilluime, Steven Bellot and Lionel Haven. He later became coach and
president of the club guiding the club to numerous National
Championships. He served as president of the Bahamas Football
Association and was responsible for the formation of the New Providence
Football league and the introduction of women's football into the

Freeport Rugby Football Club’s Youth Football (‘Soccer’) Programme for
boys, known as the Grand Bahama Soccer Academy officially kicks off on
Wednesday September 3rd from 5pm.
The Programme is now into its thirteenth season and is aimed at boys
from the age of 9 upwards.
The Academy runs every Wednesday commencing
September 3rd from 5pm until 6.30pm with additional and later
sessions being organized on other nights depending upon age groups at Freeport

Bimini Sands Resort & Marina on South Bimini in the Bahamas hosted
The Woody Foundation’s Lionfish Bash for the fourth year in a row on
August 15-17, 2014. The popular family spearfishing event led to the
removal of 276 lionfish – a non-native, invasive species that is
threatening native fish stocks in the Bahamas and Florida – from the
waters around Bimini.
The Lionfish Bash is an annual event
created to raise awareness about lionfish as well as to benefit The
Woody Foundation, a Miami-based non-profit organization that raises

It has been announced that Atlanta-based fast food giant Popeyes will be the official sponsor of The Bahamas Bowl.
The game will be played on December 24th in Nassau at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium.

New Providence Cycling Association Summer Sprint Classic for month of August.
first race was held on Saturday 23rd covering 20 miles starting and
finish Bahamar Blvd to Lyford Cay and back, this was perhaps one of our
shortest road race for the season. This race was short, fast, and prove
to have excitement throughout the course of the race. At the half way
mark Deangelo Superman Sturrup make an attack on the group of cyclists
around the half way mark, the group/Pelton make several attempts to reel
him in before the race ended, but all attempts failed as Superman
Sturrup continued his solo breakaway, riding to the finish line ahead of
the group to capture his second win for this season...
2013 BAAA Competition Calendar

Nassau, Bahamas - The first meet of the year was held in Nassau on January 5th.
The Odd Distance Track and Field Meet began the 83 day
countdown to CARIFTA 2013 and will act as a measuring stick by coaches
and athletes to test fitness and progress going into the new season.
Athletes home for the holidays were expected to compete in the event, which had over 400 entries.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean
Association Football (CONCACAF) held its inaugural Girls’
Under-15 Championship, in Cayman Islands in August, and
team Bahamas was a part of the history with a total of 16 teams.
Topping the excitement, Team Bahamas won their first match against Curacao with a 3 - 0 score
on August 6th.
Taylor, Meaghan Smith and Marisa Vietti all scored a goal a piece for The Bahama.
Marissa Vietti was named Player of the Game. All the fore mentioned girls are from Grand
Bahama Island, and
Hanna Joy Simms was appointed team caption, while Marisa Vietti was appointed co-captain...

CHINA - Grand Bahama's Joanna Evans made history by breaking
a BAHAMIAN record in 800m freestyle and won a bronze medal at the Nanjing
Youth Olympic Games on Day 3.
Joanna won gold at the 2013 Carifta Games, as well at the 2013
Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Championships (CCCAN). She also set previous national
records at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland this year, and
in the World Junior Swimming Championships in Dubai in 2013.

World Masters Championships. The World Championships highlight both the
club and country at the worlds’ largest meet. The Swift swimmers were

a week-long stay at Club Med Sandpiper Bay.

& Caicos Islands – Three Turks & Caicos Islands Football
Association (TCIFA) representatives attended the recently held CONCACAF
U15 Girls Championships that took place in the Cayman Islands. Attending
on behalf of the Football Association were Patrice Senior, Alexander
Bryan and Brittney Bien-Aime.
The inaugural competition featured
teams from 16 countries throughout the CONCACAF confederation. Of the
championship, it was the team from Canada that won after playing a
hard-hitting game against Haiti. The event follows on the heels of last
year’s inaugural the Boys’ Under-15 tournament, which was also hosted by
the Cayman Islands and was won by Honduras.
2014 Bahamas Half Set to Challenge Athletes

Following the overwhelming success of
the inaugural Bahamas Half in 2013, the Bahamas Roadmasters running club
is set to launch the 2nd annual Bahamas Half. This event is being held
on Sunday, November 23rd, 2014 and will feature the half marathon, half
marathon 3-person relay and a 10K race. Proceeds from the event will
benefit the Bahamas Special Olympics and be fun for all ages and skill
levels including walkers and junior athletes.
