Services (BIS) Mr. Luther Smith shares a proud moment and congratulates
BIS Human Resources Manager, Mrs. Linda Woodside-Major on her induction
into the National Sports Hall of Fame that took place recently. Mrs.
Woodside-Major was one of 15 sports heroes of The Bahamas who were
inducted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2015 by Governor General Her
Excellency Dame Marguerite Pindling at Government House, November 19, in
special ceremonies sponsored by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and
Culture during ‘Sports Heritage Month.’

represented The Bahamas with distinction in track and field in three
CARIFTA Games, earning silver medals in 1975 for high jump and long

November held its “box-off” to qualify boxers to travel to the Olympic
qualifier in Argentina in March of 2016.

ITF Goombay Splash Tennis Tournament Underway in Nassau

The ITF Goombay Splash Tournament is underway
at the National Tennis Centre in Nassau, Bahamas. The
qualifying rounds started November 21 for two days. The Main Draw begins
Monday, November 23
Saturday, November 28
The tournament is an International Tennis Federation sanctioned
tournament that showcases top juniors from around the world. The
tournament is open to juniors 18and under players and under COTECC,
those players 14 and under.
This year, there is a notable contingency participating
from the Bahamas, many of them making the Main Draw. The Bahamas No. 1
and No. 2 players in the Girls' 18UIsabel Donaldson and Iesha
Shepherd respectively have made the Main Draw.We also have the

Bahamas win over Mexico in The International Lawn Tennis Club in Washington D.C.

The Bahamas has performed tremendously at The International Lawn Tennis Clubs or "IC’s
Junior Challenge tournament which is being held in Washington DC. The
IC 16-and-under Junior Challenge began in 2005 and has been sponsored by
Compass Group since its inception. The competition consists of two
girls and two boys with an adult captain. All juniors play both a
singles and doubles match against other country teams with all matches
counting towards one overall team result.
Today The Bahamas won their opening match against Mexico by 4 matches to 3.

Bahamas student receives Sports Scholarship

A student from Bahamas has received a scholarship to help fulfil his sporting dreams while studying for a degree.
Timmy Munnins was presented with the University of South Wales (USW)
Sports Scholarships by former Wales and Llanelli rugby star Nigel
Davies, who is now coach of Ebbw Vale.
A graduate in mechanical and production engineering from the University
of Glamorgan – which is now part of USW – Davies played almost 500 times
for Llanelli and also captained Wales...
International Star Sailors to race sloops with Bahamian crews

The Star Sailors League (SSL) will hold its Grand Finals for the 3rd
consecutive year off the Nassau Yacht Club between Wednesday December
2nd and Saturday December 5th. The races are streamed live, world-wide,
as they happen, over four days of racing on their web site
www.starsailors.com. In between races, film coverage of the November
28th/29th Mayagauna Mini Regatta will also be shown on the live fee.
The SSL film crew will take to the seas of Montegu Beach to film, close

ALICE TOWN, BIMINI - With 30 boats and over 120 anglers competing,
Wahoo Smackdown VII, hosted by the Bimini Big Game Club Resort &
Marina, set a record turnout this past weekend for the popular

captained by Carlos Tosca out of Miami. The five-man team’s top five
wahoo weighed in at 248.9 pounds. This was Team Pachanga’s first Wahoo

D-Squad basketball tournament strengthens ties between public and private schools
Bahamas - The annual D-Squad Pre-Season Basketball Tournament wrapped
up this weekend with reigning tournament champion CC Sweeting Senior
High School walking away victorious once again.Celebrating its tenth
year under the leadership of founder and director Harcourt McCoy,
D-Squad is one of the few basketball tournaments that bring public and
private schools together for friendly competition among senior boys.

The Lawyers Rugby World Cup, held every four years to coincide with the
Rugby World Cup is an event which allows various law societies from
across the globe to develop professional relationships and profile their
national law societies in a social setting, and on the rugby field.
This year, the Lawyers Rugby World Cup, hosted by the Law Society of
England & Wales, was held at the Richmond Athletic Ground in London.
For the first time the Cayman Islands Law Society (CILS) was
invited to participate in the event. Alasdair Robertson, President of
the Cayman Islands Law society said, “It is a gratifying honour for the
Cayman Islands to be selected to play in this tournament alongside

Freeport, The Bahamas - The
Grand Bahama Girls' Soccer Development League received a special visit
from local track star Jeffery Gibson during a practice on Saturday,
November 7. The Grand Bahama native, who won a gold medal at the 2015
Pan-American Games in Canada for his performance in the 400 metre
hurdles, stopped by the Freeport Rugby Club to present local coaches
with certificates of completion in soccer training and offer encouraging
words to young girls in the athletic programme.
G.B. Girls' Soccer Development League Co-Founder and Director
Mary Woodside-Knowles said the league was thrilled to have Mr Gibson
visit and recognise the coaches who recently received their Level 1 and
Level 2 Diplomas from the National Soccer Coaches of America
