Los Angeles, California, USA -  In an event with 6,500 athletes and 2,000 coaches representing 165 countries, our Bahamian athletes are doing a great job at representing our country! 

Update as of Friday night , July 31st: It seems like GOLD was the preferred colour of the day for Team Bahamas and to top it all off, the athletes got to share their joy with a very special visitor, as former US ambassador to The Bahamas, Nicole Avant made a special call at the USC campus to spend some time and share in the joy of athletes and other delegation members from Team Bahamas.

3 gold medals on Friday as Deangelo Bullard won his nail biting singles division with a 521 pinfall to snatch the Gold medal from Singapore by a mere 2 pin margin...

Nassau, Bahamas - After last week's naming of Mychal Thompson Blvd, with NBA champion and his son Klay Thompson in attendance,  the official grand opening of the Sports Legend Walk of Fame also took place.

Twenty-eight permanent hand drawn portrait monuments created by internationally acclaimed 'Celebrity Artist' Jamaal Rolle were unveiled and these artworks have immortalized the many great sports legends of the Bahamas from the last decade and beyond.

Bahamas Men's 4x400m Relay Team Takes Bronze at the Pan Am Games - Jul 28, 2015 - 1:35:10 PM

In the men's 4x400m relay, the Bahamas had their DQ overturned 20 minutes after the race, and claimed the bronze medal after the Cuban disqualification

TORONTO, Canada -  The final night of the Pan Am Games showcased the 4 x 400m relay races was an exciting show for The Bahamas as the men's team led in all their baton hand-offs and the race until the final stretch. 

It was in that final stretch that we watched the sudden takeover from Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, and the USA, putting the 'initial' final result with The Bahamas in a heart wrenching fourth place finish...

Bahamas' Donald Thomas won a bronze in the men's high jump Saturday evening at the Pan Am Games in Toronto, Canada.

Thomas finished with a 2.28 behind two Canadians, Mike Mason with 2.31 and Derek Drouin with 2.37, a season's best.

Ryan Ingraham of the Bahamas finished in sixth place with 2.25.

TORONTO, Canada - Putting a fantastic close to a busy and productive day of track and field events for The Bahamas on Friday,  Bianca Stuart placed silver in the women's long jump with a 6.69m.

This is the fifth medal for The Bahamas at the games and the second silver.

Leevan Sands has taken a silver in the Pan Am Games in Toronto, Canada in the triple jump with a season best of 16.99.

Sands just traveled from Edmonton, Alberta where he won the triple jump at the Track Town Classic on Sunday, July 12th with 16.68m.

His silver is a triumph, in particular after his arrival to the Pan Am Games was tarnished by an omission, despite him meeting qualifying standards...

Results from today's women's 4 x 400m semi final 1/2 move Cuba, Bahamas and Barbados on to the finals. Bahamas women's team put in a strong start in their race and were the first to exchange, with a second place outcome...

Nassau, New Providence - At the recently honouring and welcoming of Bahamian basketball legend Michael Thompson and his son, current NBA champion Klay Thompson, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe, a variety of Bahamian executives, and spectators were present to see the unveiling of a custom portrait created by world renowned Bahamian artist Jamaal Rolle aka “The Celebrity Artist."

At the reception, the unveiling of the portrait was introduced by the Prime Minister Perry G Christie who humorously said to Klay Thompson, “Boy I wish I look like you,” sparking laughter from Thompson and those gathered.

The Bahamas Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture extends congratulations to our newest Golden Girl; Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace for her outstanding, record breaking gold medal performance at the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games in the 50m freestyle event.  

Arianna has cemented her status as the Bahamas’ greatest swimmer and is now ranked at number four in the world in the 50m freestyle.

We wish her continued success in the August World Long Course Championships and the road ahead to the 2016 Rio Olympics

TAINO BEACH, Grand Bahama – The sport of Sloop Sailing is perhaps the most celebrated event in The Bahamas and this past weekend, Grand Bahama was the place to be as hundreds came to Taino Beach for the Grand Bahama Regatta.

Rev. Dr. Philip McPhee and the crew of the Thunderbird completely dominated the eight-boat “C” Class, winning all three of the exciting sponsored races for a total of 22 points, followed by H2O with 19, and the Sweet Island Gal with 17 points.

Beyond the excitement of the medal podium, The Bahamas proudly registered an important ‘first’ during the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.  The Games were the first time The Bahamas has participated internationally at such a high level in the sport of Gymnastics.  Representing The Bahamas was gymnast Kianna Dean.  “I truly enjoyed this competition and I felt so honoured to be given the opportunity to represent my country in Artistic Gymnastics.

Toronto, Canada -- The Bahamas' Jeffery Gibson claimed a gold medal in the men's 400m hurdles at the Pan Am Games on July 23rd, and in doing so broke his own nation record in the process.  Gibson joins Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace who is the only other gold medalist at the games at this time. This makes the third medal for the country.

Taking the silver was Puerto Rico's Javier Culson with 48.67, and bronze went to Jamaica's Roxroy Cato with 48.72.

TORONTO - On Friday, July 17th, and just three days after taking bronze in the 100 m freestyle, Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace claimed gold in the 50 m freestyle at the Pan Am Games in Canada, making it her second medal in the games, and the second medal for The Bahamas.

Her gold medal swim was 24.38. She was followed by Brazil's Etiene Mederios for silver with a time of 24.55, and USA's Natalie Coughlin taking bronze with 24.66.

Earlier in the heats she set a meet record of 24.31 in heat 4 of the 50 freestyle qualifiers beating her national record of 24.34...

Nassau, Bahamas – The Bahamas congratulates the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl and Central Michigan University Football Team for being short-listed as a finalist in the “Best Play” category at The 2015 ESPYs Awards.

Central Michigan University, one of the inaugural bowl participants, displayed their best skills in a comeback play known as the “Hail Mary” pass; where the Chippewas were trailing by seven and threw a touchdown pass with no time left on the clock that included three laterals en route to a 75-yard touchdown.

Leevan 'Superman' Sands won the triple jump in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada at the Track Town Classic on Sunday, July 12th with 16.68m.

The Classic is the last meeting of the 2015 National Track League (NTL) Series and first major international meeting in North America after the Caribbean, Canadian and USA Championships.

Sand's is on his way next to the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.

Treasure Cay, Abaco – Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Co. Ltd. helped Abaconians to enjoy the 42nd Bahamian Independence celebrations in a ‘Truly Bahamian’ way with their Sands ‘Man in The Boat’ sculling races. The event took place over the holiday weekend in Treasure Cay, right after the Abaco Regatta finals.
