47th Annual BASRA Swim race & Beach Party w/ Uppercut 242 - Aug 19, 2017 - 9:34:16 AM

The 47th Annual Bernie Butler/BASRA Swim race is scheduled to take place August 19 at Coral Beach from 9:00 a.m. the much anticipated annual event is the largest Swim race and beach party of the year.

Directly after the competition is the beach party from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m, the U. S. Coast Guard returns with their dramatic demonstrations which includes a chase and a rescue scene.

Some of the finest young athletes from across the globe tonight (23 July) brought the flag down on six unforgettable days of great sporting achievements and new Commonwealth friendships forged on the small island state of The Bahamas as the Commonwealth Youth Games came to an emotional end.

Over 1000 young people mostly aged 14-18 from 63 nations and territories participated in an energetic Junkanoo carnival spectacular which formally ended what Commonwealth Games Federation President Louise Martin CBE has already billed “a turning point in the island’s incredible sporting history”

Commenting on the success of the VIth Commonwealth Games, CGF President Louise Martin CBE said: “The Bahamas have provided a spectacular sporting stage and cultural platform for the Commonwealth’s finest young athletes to shine.

Nassau, Bahamas - With the first three days of competition concluded, the Bahamas 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, which close this Sunday 23 July, reach their half-way point. All nine sports are underway, across two sporting complexes, including the Youth Games’ first ever presentations of Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball, Judo and Women’s Boxing. Over 1,000 athletes are competing from 63 countries, many experiencing their first taste of international multi-sport competition.Medals have so far been awarded in Athletics, Aquatics, Cycling (Road) and Judo, with England, New Zealand and Scotland leading the medal tally. Trinidad and Tobago have won their first ever Commonwealth Youth Games gold medal, thanks to Adell Colthrust’s 100m Men’s Final win, as have Bermuda, with Matthew Oliviera winning the Time Trial on the beautiful and baking-hot roads of New Providence.

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association wishes to announce its tennis athletes for the upcoming Commonwealth Youth Games to be held July 18 – 23, 2017.

Anticipation is running high as campers and coaches arrived in Nassau for the ninth edition of Basketball without Borders (BWB) Americas and the first BWB camp in the Bahamas. The BWB brings together the top 66 boys and girls from 16 countries and territories in the Americas to learn directly from NBA/WNBA/FIBA players and coaches.

Campers couldn’t wait to head to the Kendal G.L. Isaacs National Gymnasium at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre to receive their Nike gear and get acquainted with where all the basketball action will take place in the next few days. The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association is hosting its 16th edition of Junkanoo Bowl ITF Tournament which begins today and runs through Saturday, July 8, 2017. Qualifying Round will be held for two days and the Main Draw (32-Draw) begins Monday, July 3 and runs through Saturday, July 8. Matches start at 9:00 a.m. daily at the National Tennis Centre, Q. E. Sports Centre.
