St. Maarten to host 2nd Annual International Women’s Soccer Tournament

SIMPSON BAY, St. Maarten (Tuesday, October 21, 2014)—The second
Annual International Women’s Soccer Tournament, which will be hosted by
the Soualiga Soccer Association (SSA) from October 24 – 26, 2014, will
carry the name of SXM Airport as its “title sponsor.”
About 100 persons are expected to participate in this event, which will be held at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex.
Soualiga Soccer Association solicited sponsorship from SXM Airport, as
its corporate sponsor, to ensure the necessary funds are raised to host
the event. SXM Airport has accepted to offer a significant financial
contribution to facilitate the organization of this major tournament.
According to Kalifa Hickinson, SXM’s Corporate Communications
Specialist, “this is in keeping with our corporate social
responsibility, as well as our efforts to promote and support sports in

It has been announced that Atlanta-based fast food giant Popeyes will be the official sponsor of The Bahamas Bowl.
The game will be played on December 24th in Nassau at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium.

Nassau, Bahamas - The
United States will be the second most heavily represented nation at the
SSL Finals when they take place at Nassau in the Bahamas between
December 1st and 7th next.
Reflecting the consistency, quality
and number of sailors involved in the Star class, the United States has
the largest representation in the Star Sailors League with 294 skippers
(out of a total of 1,001) and 376 crew (out of 1,435). Three of the
American skippers - Augie Diaz, George Szabo and Mark Mendelblatt - are
in the top 12 and automatically qualified once again for the second
edition of the SSL Finals.

NASSAU, Bahamas –
She's done it! After departing from Eleuthera on Tuesday morning, 29
year old Australian swimmer Chloe McCardel has successfully completed a
78-mile swim from Eleuthera to Nassau, New Providence. She reached
Nassau around 1am on Wednesday, October 22nd.
According to her team this is the longest continuous marathon swim in history. The open-water solo took 42.5 hours.

Bahamas Judo Athletes to Debut at the World Junior Championships

“Whoever wins this tournament will be the Champion of the
Tim Munnings, Director of Sports and Olympic Medalist. He
delivered a motivating message of belonging to the eight young athletes
who will be representing the Bahamas at the Judo World Junior
Championships. The tournament will be held in Miami later this week. The
team is comprised of national champions who have all won international
matches and medals against high level opponents.
The team is coached by D’Arcy Rahming Jr. who is the only
Bahamian to have fought in a previous Junior World Championships in
2007. Rahming is a second degree Black and a certified coach by
Semmelweis University in Hungary. “The team has prepared using world
class standards and the best technology. I am particularly delighted
that three of the eight athletes are from Abaco and one other athlete
was recruited out of the College..."

40 Grand Bahama soccer coaches earn NSCAA Level 1 & 2 diplomas

Grand Bahama Girls’ Developmental Soccer League sponsored forty coaches
from Grand Bahama for a three day coaching course from September 23-
25, 2014. Participating coaches were awarded two qualifications, Level 1
and Level 2 National Coaches Soccer Association (NSCAA) diplomas.
Level 1 Diploma is designed to help coaches implement developmentally
appropriate training games to improve skill levels in a fun and safe
environment. The diploma has three parts, classroom with theory of
coaching U6-U8; field work with coaches; and field work with U6-U8
players. Coaches not working at this age group still benefited greatly
from an appreciation of the developmental abilities and needs of this

The Beach Volleyball Series was founded in 1991 and is the longest

Bahamas, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Texas
beginning with the 2015-16 season.
