U.S. Embassy Hoops It Up with Top American and Bahamian Basketball Coaches

Nassau, Bahamas - From July 23-26, top
American and Bahamian coaches participated in the 2014 International
Coaches Clinic held in Nassau, The Bahamas at the Atlantis Resort. The
clinic was hosted by the Bahamas Global Sports Foundation in partnership
with the Bahamas Basketball Federation, iOWNpr agency and CSA
Basketball Academy and co-sponsored by the United States Embassy. Under
the theme, “Learning and Recruiting is Better in The Bahamas” the group
of elite coaches shared best practices and developed networking
partnerships on and off the basketball court. Among the American coaches
participating in the event were, Ronnie Arrow, retired men’s head coach
at the University of South Alabama; Irving Thomas, NBA Scout with the
LA Lakers since 2001; Edward Palubinskas, former LA Lakers shooting
coach; Susan Summons, head women’s basketball coach at Miami-Dade
College who is currently ranked among the top 14 winningest coaches in
America, and The Bahamas’ very own Marvin Henfield...
Scullers Come Out in Full Force in Treasure Cay!

Treasure Cay, Abaco – The Sands Man in the
Boat sculling races once again saw great success in Treasure Cay, Abaco
over the weekend, as many women and men lined up to scull the boat.
start the event of right, the Bahamian Brewery and Beverage team held a
boat parade throughout the communities of Abaco, starting at Jimmy’s
Wines and Spirits on Bay Street, Marsh Harbour and ending in Treasure
Cay, with the races.
After eight thrilling heats, including an
all lady race, Skeeter Rolle placed first, Fernley Cox placed second and
M. Kelly placed third. The winners all received trophies and the
traditional cases of Sands beer for their participation in the event.
Abaco winner, Skeeter Rolle, will now join the other four winners and
head to Nassau for the sculling championships, which will be taking
place in November...

Federation would like to thank the Local Organizing Committee President
Donna Jones and her entire team and Little League Local District
Representative Edward Claude and his team (Tournament Officials,
Umpires, Scorers) for their support in hosting a successful Caribbean
Little League Regional Tournament.
The tournament came to an end on Friday evening, and
after a very disappointing loss to
Puerto Rico on Thursday, Team Bahamas Area Team came out very flat and
unfocused as they went down 8 - 0 to Curacao...
Bahamas' Ariaana Vanderpool Wallace wins swimming silver in Scotland

SCOTLAND - Making Bahamian sporting history, Arianna Vanderpool Wallace
won silver in the women's 50m butterfly final in 25.53 seconds making
her the first to receive a senior swimming medal for the Bahamas.
Airanna is a national-record holding and Olympic swimmer.
She swam for the Bahamas at the 2008 Olympics. She swims collegiately
in the USA for Auburn University.
Francesca Halsall of England won with 25.20 and Brittany Elmslie of Australia came third in 25.91.

Ursula Beck Pro Tennis Classic 128 qualifying draw in Decatur, Illinois
He had a bye in
the first round and in the 2nd round he defeated Jakub Dybala of Poland

Judo and Wrestling Make Bahamian History

The sports of
Wrestling and Judo is being exposed to international competition at the
XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow Scotland, although out of medal
contention Cynthia Rahming the Youth Olympic Champion represented the
Bahamas very well as she drew a very worthy and experienced opponent.
Secretary Knowles said, history and personal best performances is
already being made for the sport of Judo and wrestling.

Bahamas' Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace gave it her all at the Commonwealth Games today with a 4th place finish in the women's 50m freestyle final.

The Grand Bahama Regatta held on July
18th and 19th was deemed a great success! This year's regatta was under
the theme, "New Beginnings for the Island" and was dedicated to Harold
McPhee, first chairman of the GB Regatta.

on the sporting trip of a lifetime. Kadicia Babb (centre), Cameron
Chandler (second left) and Donte Singh (second right) were selected by
the UK visiting coaches for the top prize at this year’s Sir Jack
Hayward Soccer Camp. They will be joined by fellow camper Courtni Pinder
(pictured separately) who is currently off island.

Nassau, Bahamas - The first meet of the year was held in Nassau on January 5th.
The Odd Distance Track and Field Meet began the 83 day
countdown to CARIFTA 2013 and will act as a measuring stick by coaches
and athletes to test fitness and progress going into the new season.
Athletes home for the holidays were expected to compete in the event, which had over 400 entries.

Grand Bahama, also known as the Magic City came alive this past weekend
as hundreds of Bahamians flocked to Taino Beach for the 19th Annual GB
Regatta and the crowd pleasing Sands ‘Man In the Boat’ sculling races.
In an effort to heighten the
awareness of the Regatta and as an official sponsor, the Bahamian
Brewery and Beverage Company kicked off the festivities with a motorcade

YMCA Freeport to build 4-court tennis centre

- The YMCA has broken ground for a new four-court tennis centre that
will offer both youth and adult players the chance to enjoy this popular

The technical meeting
is now completed and all the countries have completed the draw for
their respective placing on the pre setup schedule. Freedom Farm and
Grand Bahama had to draw to see who would be in Pool A or B, then the
countries selected letter placement on the schedule.
Once this was completed, coin flip was done for each game to determine the Home Team..

Grand Bahama Regatta and Heritage Festival takes place at Taino Beach on July 18th and
Under the leadership of committee chairman, and new Freeport City Council Chairman, Chervita Campbell, the team
is determined to make this year's Regatta the best ever, and the entire
Grand Bahama community is encouraged to get involved and support the
continuance of a sloop sailing regatta for the island.

at sea, Taino Beach park will be buzzing with activity. The
