Bahamas Pure Silk LPGA Tournament To Provide Economic Boost - Jan 28, 2015 - 3:28:59 PM

Ministry of Tourism officials are feverishly working towards staging the second Pure Silk LPGA Classic Tournament – an event officials are hoping will be a shot in the arm for the Bahamian economy.
The event is scheduled to be held February 2nd – February 8th at Ocean Club, Paradise Island.

Over 120 of the world’s best female golfers are expected to play in the tournament.

This year’s Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic, which offers a purse of $1.3 million, is the second event on the LPGA’s 2015 schedule.
Lyford Cay International School to host KPMG Football Fest 2015 - Jan 26, 2015 - 10:05:13 AM

LCIS is preparing to host the third annual “KPMG Football Fest” on Jan 30 and 31. Almost 150 players from international schools across the Caribbean and The Bahamas will converge on the LCIS campus for two full days of competitive matches. More than 100 visiting 14 and under boys and girls will be hosted by LCIS families for a weekend of great football and camaraderie.

The event is sponsored again this year by KPMG with Subway and Thompson Trading once again providing food and snacks throughout the entire weekend. The two day event will also be monitored by an EMT team from Doctors Hospital who work alongside the LCIS school nurse, to ensure that all players and spectators are well looked after...

PARADISE ISLAND, THE BAHAMAS - The 2015 Marathon Bahamas Race Weekend got off to a fantastic start with the Susan G. Komen 5k Race for the Cure Saturday, January 17th beginning at Montagu Beach and ending at Hurricane Hole on Paradise Island. Team Atlantis turned out for the 7am start time to represent and show support for the cause, which aims to raise funds and awareness in the hopes of one day soon finding a cure to end breast cancer.

NASSAU, Bahamas – For two months, Crystal Strachan trained in a small Kenyan town that has produced some of the fastest human beings on the planet.

“I train in Iten, Kenya, also known as the Home of Champions, which is a high altitude camp designed for distance runners who want to train in a serious environment, along with some of the best runners in the world,” she said.

MIAMI (AP) — Just eight months after the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil, the Bahamas will play Bermuda in March in one of seven pairings as qualifying starts for the 2018 tournament in Russia.

The governing body for North and Central America and the Caribbean held the first draw Thursday night. The other first-round pairings are Barbados-U.S. Virgin Islands; Belize-Cayman Islands; British Virgin Islands-Dominica; Curacao-Montserrat; Turks and Caicos Islands-St. Kitts and Nevis; and Nicaragua-Anguilla.

Boys’ soccer on the island continues to quietly flourish as we move into 2015

Freeport, Grand Bahama - Saturdays see over 100 young boys running around the fields at the YMCA enthusiastically under the careful stewardship of coaches Elcott, Mark, Paul and Jake. When you note that over 80% of these boys are 7 and under then the true potential of the programmes can really be understood. Despite the outward appearance (one parent says it is akin to herding cats!!) the carefully planned and structured games for these youngsters ensure they leave each week contented and weary but, most importantly , nagging mum and dad to bring them out the following week.

In addition to Saturdays, over 45 boys aged 9 to 18 also come out on Wednesdays at Freeport Rugby Football Club‘s soccer academy to further enhance their skills...

Retired Brazilian soccer superstar Ronaldo has been in The Bahamas attending the professional poker event PokerStars Caribbean Adventure at Atlantis, and has proven that he's not only great on the field, but he's exceptional at the poker table as well. 

Ronaldo, the World Cup winner and three-time FIFA Player of the Year won $42,180 (£27,824) at the  event.

"I'm really excited, it's the same emotion I used to have at the soccer fields playing at the highest level," he said after the event.

NASSAU, Bahamas  – Josh Tate is about to make history.

The 27-year-old Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania resident will be the first independent wheelchair racer ever to take part in the upcoming 6th Annual Marathon Bahamas.

He’s also making his own personal history as this will be his first marathon.

Tate, who has been in a wheelchair since May 2009, started doing triathlons along with his wife, Samantha in 2013. He later decided to take things to the next level...

NASSAU, The Bahamas -- The ‘King Eric’ Gibson Foundation in conjunction with the government announced plans for the All-for-one-Regatta to be held January 10-12 on Montagu Bay in memory of the late King Eric Gibson, during a press conference at the Bahama Grill on Monday.

The regatta will feature A, B, and C class sloops and will showcase a children’s race, which was a favourite of King Eric.
