Team Strikers returns from National Title Boxing Championship 2015 with 3 Championship Belts - Jun 26, 2015 - 12:44:41 PM

Nassau, Bahamas - A 9 person team of 7 boxers and 2 coaches of Strikers Boxing Club headed off to Hot Springs, Arkansas, USA on June 16 and returned on June 21st with 3 championship belts.  The team attended the National Title Boxing Championship 2015, which is sponsored by Title Boxing and sanctioned by USA Boxing.  

This tournament was a first international competition for Rudolph Regis and Hubert Fernander. Fernander was awarded a championship belt in his weight class of 165 lbs.  Affectionately called “The Twin Towers” by their teammates and coaches, the twins, Davon and Davan Hamilton 17, also won their matches and awarded the championship belts in their respective weight classes...

Bahamas Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources the Hon. V. Alfred Gray said the Government is seeking to bring into force rules and regulations to govern the sports fly fishing sector.

“Fly fishing in this context of the statement made, refers to fishing which is carried out within the shallow waters of The Bahamas, by the catch and release method, in pursuit of species such as the bonefish, the tarpon, and the permit almost exclusively by visitors to The Bahamas,” said Minister Gray.

Executives of BAF Financial & Insurance (Bahamas) Lmited announced the historic Run for Pompey today, which is expected to be the next big thing in Bahamian tourism and one of the most authentic and meaningful highlights of the year.

The Run For Pompey race will feature a 5km “fun run” for the entire family, a 13mile (21.5km) half marathon, a 26mile (42km )marathon and a grueling 31mile (50km) ultra marathon. It is scheduled to take place October 9th to October 12th, with the actual race occuring on National Heroes Day in George Town, Exuma.

On Saturday, May 30th, Special Olympics Bahamas held their annual track & field nationals at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium and organizers of the event are once again, pleased with the results.

While we believe that there are still several areas that can be improved upon to raise the level of this event and enhance the overall experience for athletes and coaches, we are satisfied that we are on the right track and we will continue to do our best to make this event bigger and better. FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- Plans for the West End 5th Annual Snapper Fishing Tournament, June 20, were announced Wednesday during a press conference at the Ministry of Tourism.

The tournament will have a 7:00 a.m. start, when hand line fishermen will compete for the largest poundage of snappers, largest fish caught, and the most fish by pounds.

Being held in honour of the late James “Jimmy” Bowleg, known for being the first bone fishing guide and active in the boating business all his life, the tournament will end at 4:00 p.m...

Nassau, Bahamas – The spirit of relays came to the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in Nassau, on May 2nd and May 3rd as the venue hosted the second edition of the IAAF World Relays.

Over 700 athletes, coaches and officials represented 43 countries in ten relays – during the two days of competition at the IAAF/BTC World Relays Bahamas 2015.

Today (May 18th 2015) the Local Organizers Committee hailed the event a success and announced that planning for the 2017 edition has already started...

This year’s Grand Bahama soccer camp will field the most highly-qualified team of visiting coaches in the annual event’s 11-year history.

The trio from the UK all have professional level coaching licenses and have then gone on to successfully complete further programmes aimed at making them particularly skilled in working with young people. In the process they learned how to blend high-level teaching with making kids have fun.

All have since set thousands of children on the pathway to becoming quality players, with one having coached a youngster who went on to play for England as a full international...

Nassau, Bahamas - A year ago, Smokey’s Karate School (SKS) a martial arts academy in Englerston, was in danger of closing its doors due to a lack of safety flooring. Today, thanks to assistance from its ongoing sponsor BTC, the academy is thriving and has its sights set on sending students to the International Sport Karate Association’s US Open Martial Arts Championship in Florida, July 3rd and 4th.

Last year, BTC answered a plea for assistance from the school and donated new carpeting and tumbling mats after concerns were expressed about the safety of the children and the noise-level in the business complex where the school is located. More recently, BTC helped them with the purchase of a van for transporting the students to tournaments...
