Nassau, Bahamas - From July 23-26, top American and Bahamian coaches participated in the 2014 International Coaches Clinic held in Nassau, The Bahamas at the Atlantis Resort. The clinic was hosted by the Bahamas Global Sports Foundation in partnership with the Bahamas Basketball Federation, iOWNpr agency and CSA Basketball Academy and co-sponsored by the United States Embassy. Under the theme, “Learning and Recruiting is Better in The Bahamas” the group of elite coaches shared best practices and developed networking partnerships on and off the basketball court. Among the American coaches participating in the event were, Ronnie Arrow, retired men’s head coach at the University of South Alabama; Irving Thomas, NBA Scout with the LA Lakers since 2001; Edward Palubinskas, former LA Lakers shooting coach; Susan Summons, head women’s basketball coach at Miami-Dade College who is currently ranked among the top 14 winningest coaches in America, and The Bahamas’ very own Marvin Henfield...

Treasure Cay, Abaco – The Sands Man in the Boat sculling races once again saw great success in Treasure Cay, Abaco over the weekend, as many women and men lined up to scull the boat.

To start the event of right, the Bahamian Brewery and Beverage team held a boat parade throughout the communities of Abaco, starting at Jimmy’s Wines and Spirits on Bay Street, Marsh Harbour and ending in Treasure Cay, with the races.

After eight thrilling heats, including an all lady race, Skeeter Rolle placed first, Fernley Cox placed second and M. Kelly placed third. The winners all received trophies and the traditional cases of Sands beer for their participation in the event. Abaco winner, Skeeter Rolle, will now join the other four winners and head to Nassau for the sculling championships, which will be taking place in November...

The Bahamas Baseball Federation would like to thank the Local Organizing Committee President Donna Jones and her entire team and Little League Local District Representative Edward Claude and his team (Tournament Officials, Umpires, Scorers) for their support in hosting a successful Caribbean Little League Regional Tournament.

The tournament came to an end on Friday evening, and after a very disappointing loss to Puerto Rico on Thursday, Team Bahamas Area Team came out very flat and unfocused as they went down 8 - 0 to Curacao...

Bahamas' Ariaana Vanderpool Wallace wins swimming silver in Scotland - Jul 28, 2014 - 12:41:48 PM

Glasgow, SCOTLAND - Making Bahamian sporting history, Arianna Vanderpool Wallace won silver in the women's 50m butterfly final in 25.53 seconds making her the first  to receive a senior swimming medal for the Bahamas. Airanna is a national-record holding and Olympic swimmer. She swam for the Bahamas at the 2008 Olympics. She swims collegiately in the USA for Auburn University.

Francesca Halsall of England won with 25.20 and Brittany Elmslie of Australia came third in 25.91.

The Games close on Sunday, August 3rd...

ILLINOIS, USA - Justin Lunn played in the 16th Annual USTA Men's Futures Ursula Beck Pro Tennis Classic 128 qualifying draw in Decatur, Illinois this weekend.

He had a bye in the first round and in the 2nd round he defeated Jakub Dybala of Poland 5-7 6-2 6-3 in a 4 hour match.  He will play Mbonisi NDimande of Zimbabwe in the 3rd round on Monday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m.

The sport of rowing is relatively new to the Bahamas sports circuit but much resources is being invested in small sports says The Bahamas Olympic Committee Secretary General Romell Knowles.

The sports of Wrestling and Judo is being exposed to international competition at the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow Scotland, although out of medal contention Cynthia Rahming the Youth Olympic Champion represented the Bahamas very well as she drew a very worthy and experienced opponent. Secretary Knowles said, history and personal best performances is already being made for the sport of Judo and wrestling.

GLASGOW, Scotland -  Bahamas' Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace gave it her all at the Commonwealth Games today with a 4th place finish in the women's 50m freestyle final.

After qualifying this morning in the women's 50m butterfly semi-final, Vanderpool-Wallace, finished with 24.34.  Francesca Halsall of England (23.96) took gold, and Australia's Cate Campbell (24.00) and Bronte Campbell (24.20) were next.

On Day 1, Bahamas' Joanna Evans finished 19th in the 200 Free with a time of 2.04.19, this is a National record; and Vereance Burrows finished..

The Grand Bahama Regatta held on July 18th and 19th was deemed a great success! This year's regatta was under the theme, "New Beginnings for the Island" and was dedicated to  Harold McPhee, first chairman of the GB Regatta.

"This year's theme is timely and appropriate as we continue our efforts to revive this cultural event on the island and restore Grand Bahama Island, which once was known as the Magic City, back to its grandeur days," said the Hon Michael Darville, MP, Minister of Grand Bahama.

Freeport, The Bahamas - The happy smiling faces of three youngsters about to head out on the sporting trip of a lifetime.  Kadicia Babb (centre), Cameron Chandler (second left) and Donte Singh (second right) were selected by the UK visiting coaches for the top prize at this year’s Sir Jack Hayward Soccer Camp. They will be joined by fellow camper Courtni Pinder (pictured separately) who is currently off island.

The quartet’s all-round contribution at the camp, held in Freeport, Grand Bahama last month, won them a two-day all-expenses paid trip to the final of the Guinness Cup in Miami on August 4. They will enjoy all the razzmatazz and then watch two of the most famous soccer clubs in the world fight it out for this prestigious trophy...

Nassau, Bahamas - The first meet of the year was held in Nassau on January 5th. 

The Odd Distance Track and Field Meet began the 83 day countdown to CARIFTA 2013 and will act as a measuring stick by coaches and athletes to test fitness and progress going into the new season.

Athletes home for the holidays were expected to compete in the event, which had over 400 entries.

In an effort to heighten the awareness of the Regatta and as an official sponsor, the Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Company kicked off the festivities with a motorcade throughout the streets of Grand Bahama on Thursday July 17th handing out free products to excited persons lining the streets along the route...

Sir Arlington Butler received the Meritorious award for long an outstanding service to the Olympic and Commonwealth Games Federation.  The Commonwealth Games Federation meetings are taking place in Glasgow, Scotland.

Bahamas has a 51 member team at the event competing in track and field, swimming, judo, boxing, wresting and cycling.

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama - The YMCA has broken ground for a new four-court tennis centre that will offer both youth and adult players the chance to enjoy this popular sport in a safe and professional environment.

"Our new centre will provide the best possible tennis experience,” said YMCA Executive Director Karen Johnson. "We  will offer a full tennis programme for all ages and ability levels at reasonable cost, and thereby create a large pool of players and a social tennis environment that is missing for most on Grand Bahama."

The J Barry Farrington Tennis Classics officially opened this weekend with the tennis legend himself on hand to hit the first ball.  The event is taking place over the course of this week at the Carmichael Athletic Community Center in Flamingo Gardens.

The tournament is the brainchild of Bradley Demeritte, who says it was Farrington's motivation and push that led him to be one of the most successful players in Bahamian history.  He brought in tennis pro Bradley Bain to assist him in manning the tournament and the many children who are participating...

The technical meeting is now completed and all the countries have completed the draw for their respective placing on the pre setup schedule.  Freedom Farm and Grand Bahama had to draw to see who would be in Pool A or B, then the countries selected letter placement on the schedule.

Once this was completed, coin flip was done for each game to determine the Home Team..

All was now set for the start of the Caribbean Little League Championship – Freeport, Grand Bahama July 18th through 27th 2014.

Bahamas is being lead by the Bahamas National Champions - Freedom Farm Baseball League and 3rd Place Runners-up Grand Bahama Little League..

The Grand Bahama Regatta and Heritage Festival takes place at Taino Beach on July 18th and 19th. 

Under the leadership of committee chairman, and new Freeport City Council Chairman,  Chervita Campbell, the team is determined to make this year's Regatta the best ever, and the entire Grand Bahama community is encouraged to get involved and support the continuance of a sloop sailing regatta for the island. 

While sailing and racing is going on at sea, Taino Beach park will be buzzing with activity. The Heritage Committee is busy planning to ensure that there will be ample native food, entertainment, and activities such as plaiting the maypole, etc., as well as arts and crafts on display...
