Bahamas swimming star gives verbal commitment to University of Texas

Joanna Evans, a distance freestyler from The
Bahamas, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Texas
beginning with the 2015-16 season.
Evan represented The Bahamas at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in
Nanjing this past summer. She was the bronze medalist in the 800m free
with 8:39.75. She went into the meet with a seed time of 8:57 from
Charlotte Grand Prix in February. In the 400m free, Evans dropped more
than five seconds to finish fifth with 4:12.14. She was only 9/10 behind
gold medalist Hannah Moore of the USA and 2.9 seconds ahead of the
BOC's Romell Knowles to present at International Olympic Committee Forum

Knowles, Secretary General of the Bahamas Olympic Committee and
International Softball Federation Hall of Fame designate will represent
the Bahamas at the International Olympic Committee Forum on "Basic
Principles of Good Governance."
Knowles, who holds an Executive
Master's Degree in Sports Organization Management was invited by the
International Olympic Committee to be one of the presenters and will
speak on the topic:

The Star Sailors
League is pleased to announce that its second grand finale once again
takes place in Nassau in the Bahamas between December 2nd and 7th.
champions Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada will be tackling 19 very
competitive teams in this second edition, two more than last year, with a
purse of 200,000 dollars on the table. The top-ranked crew at the end
of the event will take home 40,000 dollars, in fact.
the winners’ prize (sponsored by the Symonette family), there will also
be trophies for teams that, over the course of the year, dominated the
special ranking lists drawn up by the Star Sailors League.
Bahamas Tourism in talks with New York Yankees

NEW YORK CITY, New
York: The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism is looking to ‘get on base’ with
the New York Yankees, seeking a partnership with the popular Major
League Baseball (MLB) team.
The two sides recently began
exploratory discussions on cobranding efforts that would expose millions
of baseball fans to The Islands of The Bahamas brand. Director of
Sports Tourism Greg Rolle led a team of sports representatives to New
York to meet with New York Yankee executives Tuesday evening.
York is one of our major target markets and if we can establish a
relationship with the Yankees that will help us penetrate the market, it
could result in a boost in our visitor numbers,” Rolle said.

Bahamians Take Gold at Florida Judo Tournament

Three members of the Bahamas Judo team produced outstanding
performances at the Florida Yudanshakai (Black Belt tournament) held in
Orlando this weekend. Cynthia Rahming 20, won two golds in the womens
lightweight and middle weight divisions. Kentico Forbes 18, won a gold
and a silver in the Mens middleweight and heavy weight division and
Joshua Mcfall 18, won two bronzes in the mens lightweight and
"I am particularly
pleased with Kentico's performance as he has only been training for 9
months." Said Coach D'Arcy Rahming Jr. "All three athletes trained in
Cuba over the summer. Cynthia also took what she learned from the
Commonwealth Games in Scotland along with her training with Olympians in
the US during the summer and turned in an extremely impressive

second annual Potcakeman Triathlon was a thrilling morning at Jaws Beach
on Saturday September 20th 2014. Over 200 participants took part in the
750m swim,21km bike and 5k run or the shorter distanced ‘puppy tri’.
Featuring chip timing sponsored by Purina, the first person over the
finish line was part of the Freeport based team ‘Executive Marine’.
Kelly Kramp was crowned overall men’s winner finishing with a time of
1:12:08 and newcomer Ashleigh O’Mahony won the women’s division in
1:19:20. The new champions were presented with dog-bone shaped trophies
plus an Ironman Watch donated from John Bull and a Kenneth Cole leather
bag from The Shoe Village...

Bahamian Volleyball players polishing skills under renowned Brazilian coach

Elite Bahamian volleyball players and
national team members will benefit from a month of practice clinics
under renowned Brazilian coach Augusto Sabbatini. Coach Sabbatini is in
The Bahamas as a result of sponsorship by the International Volleyball
Federation and NORCECA, the North, Central America and Caribbean
Volleyball Confederation, through The Bahamas Olympic Committee. Coach
Sabbatini praised The Bahamas Volleyball team and its “high quality
players and high potential”. Bahamas Volleyball has had considerable
regional success this year, with three team medals at various regional
qualifying events. Volleyball Team Bahamas won gold in French St.
Martin; Silver in Cuba and Bronze in Puerto Rico. The team also placed
fifth at the Continental Championships in Canada...
Bahamian Gymnasts invited to Pan Am Toronto 2015

Representatives from The Bahamas Gymnastics
Federation are to take part in the Pan American Games being held in
Toronto, Canada in 2015. It is the first time that The Bahamas has been
invited in Gymnastics to the high-level regional competition and comes
after Gymnastics was among the smaller Olympic sports in The Bahamas
selected by The Bahamas Olympic Committee (BOC) to participate in the
Pan American Sports Festival. BOC Secretary General Romell Knowles said
that “the invitation to Pan Am Games for gymnastics is a dividend
return from Bahamas Olympics' decision to invest in some of the
country’s smaller sporting Federations by sending them to the Pan
American Sports Festival.”
The Festival is a multi-sport event
organized by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) for athletes
from the Americas as a development and training event to aid countries
with their preparations for the larger Games competitions....
Bahamas Praised For HBCUX Classic: TSU defeats CSU

There were over 8,000 tickets sold at this past weekend’s HBCUX Classic –
the first-ever American college football game held in The Bahamas.
game, held at the Thomas A. Robinson stadium, saw Texas State
University (TSU) and Central State University (CSU) square off.
But in the end, TSU defeated CSU 30-16.
TSU player Daveonn Porter said he was pleased to be in The Bahamas playing the game he loves...

Kayla Johnson of The Bahamas Boxing Federation leaves next week for a
high-level training course in Mexico.
Coach Johnson was cited as a
‘history-maker’ by Bahamas Olympic Committee and Bahamas Boxing
Federation President Wellington Miller. “…this is an historic first for
women’s boxing and boxing generally in The Bahamas,” said Miller;
“Women’s boxing is a fast growing sport around the world and when Coach
Johnson returns, we hope that she will be able to capture the
imagination of young Bahamian women and attract some of them into the
fine art and the sweet science of boxing.”

football game at Thomas A. Robinson this weekend can now do so at a
tickets for the game have now been reduced to $10, $20 and $50.General
admission is now at $10, while platinum tickets are just $50.HBCUX, an
American football game, is being held on September 12-14 at the Thomas
A. Robinson Stadium.

historically black colleges- will square off in the first college

2013 BAAA Competition Calendar

Nassau, Bahamas - The first meet of the year was held in Nassau on January 5th.
The Odd Distance Track and Field Meet began the 83 day
countdown to CARIFTA 2013 and will act as a measuring stick by coaches
and athletes to test fitness and progress going into the new season.
Athletes home for the holidays were expected to compete in the event, which had over 400 entries.
