Sir Jack Hayward Soccer Camp Quickly Approaching

With school coming to a close and summer in full swing, the Freeport
Rugby Football Club invites youth from around the island to sign up for
the Sir Jack Hayward Soccer Camp.
The weeklong camp begins on
Monday, June 25 and finishes on Friday, June 29. Each day begins at 9
a.m. and finishes at 3 p.m. During that time, participants will get the
opportunity to work alongside international coaches, including several
current college coaches from the United States...

The Bahamas Poker Run co-founders, Jordan Lampkin and Shane
Freedman, have concluded that by all accounts the 2018 Third Annual
edition was a huge success.
Thursday, June 7th at the official cheque presentation, Bahamas Poker
Run (BPR) committee members were elated at the turnout and support for
this event, resulting in the event being able to this year make a
sizeable $10,000 donation to the Bahamas National Trust (BNT) in support
of the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park (ECSP)...
GBPA Named Title Sponsor of Conchman Triathlon for Third Consecutive Year

The Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) is delighted to be the title
sponsor of the 2018 Conchman Triathlon event, for the third consecutive
year. Since inception, the Conchman Triathlon always takes place on
the first Saturday of November each year and is a successful and
long-standing event on Grand Bahama Island. This year marks the 32nd
Annual GBPA Conchman Triathlon, which will be held on Saturday, November
3rd, 2018 at Taino Beach.

The Director of Sports, Tim Munnings, The Bahamas Olympic Committee
Secretary General Derron Donaldson, Sports Liason Officer for Tennis in
the Ministry of Sports Kevin Colebrooke were all on hand to welcome
back Team Bahamas on their stellar performance in Escauza,
Costa Rica. The 2018 Davis Cup team consisted of the #1 seeded Baker
Newman, #2 seeded Philip Major Jr., Jody Turnquest and the Player/Coach
Marvin Rolle. The entire team expressed joy and exuberance at the win
and stated that all they wanted to do was "make their country proud"...

The Bahamas has been promoted once again in Davis Cup Competition after
the stellar performance displayed in tournament play by its world class
athletes. The Bahamas who presently sits in the The Davis Cup, Americas
Zone III in 2018 had just been relegated after playing in Zone II in
2017. Therefore the mission was clear: our guys had to work hard to
ensure that The Bahamas would earn the right to enter into Zone 2
competition in 2019. Mission Accomplished!
The Bahamas Team came into tournament play today undefeated and at the
top of their pool. They played Honduras, Antigua & Barbuda, Jamaica

The Bahamas Football Association, the governing body for soccer in the
Bahamas, announced the names of young Bahamian football players who will
participate in this summer’s FOOTBALL FOR FRIENDSHIP program in Moscow,
Russia. The youth centered empowerment program is sponsored by Gazprom,
a major sponsor of FIFA.
The youngsters selected are Aliah
Rodriguez, who attends Temple Christian School and plays with Cavalier
FC and Jordin Wilson who attends, Lyford Cay School and plays with
Western Warriors FC. The youngsters will be accompanied on their trip by
chaperones Mrs. Saskia D’Aguilar and Mrs. Simone Wilson...
2 Top Female Junior Tennis Players awarded Scholarships at Prestigious Colleges

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association(BLTA) is proud of the awarding of
tennis scholarships from top college institutions in The United States
to two of our top female juniors in the Bahamas: Afrika Smith and Sierra
Donaldson. Both ladies have toured the junior circuit over the past
few years and have attained much success including quarterfinals,
semifinals and finals appearances in the international tennis arena.
Both ladies have soared to high heights in USTA and ITF tournaments.
Sierra and Afrika have proudly represented the Bahamas on national teams
including World Juniors, Junior Fed Cup and other team competitions...

The Department of Sports in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture
held a press conference Wednesday, May 16, to make the public aware of
the upcoming 34th Annual Frank "Pancho" Rahming Primary School Track and
Field Championships to be held May 23-26, 2018.
Minister of Youth,
Sports and Culture the Hon. Michael Pintard said the Ministry will
fulfill its mandate of supplying ground transportation, accommodations
and breakfast and lunch for the participants. He said that he is still
hopeful that corporate Bahamas will assist in that regard...

Freeport Rugby Club hosts 8th Annual Junior International Rugby Festival

The Freeport Rugby Football Club will host its eighth annual Junior
International Rugby Festival this weekend on May 19th – 20th. Teams from
Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Nassau and Key Biscayne will travel to play in
the two-day tournament that will take place at the rugby club located
on East Settler’s Way. This annual exhibition is a great showcase for
the sport and will feature players from 8 to 16 years old.

Shaunae Miller-Uibo put on quite a show at the International Amateur
Athletic Federation's Shanghai Diamond League Meet on Saturday! In
record-breaking times, Gardiner won the men's 400m and Miller-Uibo won
the women's 200m.
In the men's 400m, Gardiner beat Botswana's
triple Commonwealth Games gold medalist Isaacs Makwala, who came second

Freeport Youth Rugby Brings the Heat to Florida

With the 8th Annual International Junior Rugby Festival approaching, the
talented youth from Freeport Rugby Football Club traveled to Florida to
gain some much-needed experience against quality competition in the
inaugural Weston Rugby Challenge Cup. Hosted by Okapi Wanderers RFC, the
one-day tournament was a tremendous opportunity for Freeport’s U12, U14
and U16 teams to showcase their skills and build chemistry just weeks
before the festival.

Steven Gardiner takes gold in the 400m at the Doha Diamond League

Bahamian world silver medalist Steven Gardiner took the 400m with a national record 43.87 seconds at the 2018 IAAF Diamond League series in Doha on Friday.
Qatar’s Abdalleleh Haroun came second in 44.50, while Commonwealth champian Isaac Makwala, finished in 44.92.

Youth empowered by successful basketball clinic in Wemyss Bight, Eleuthera

A special basketball clinic designed to inspire young South Eleutherans
while giving them critical skills in basketball was hosted by Mr.
William “Doug” Douglass on Saturday, April 29, 2018. More than 100
children attended the clinic, which was conducted at the Wemyss Bight

"On your mark...get set...GO!" Those are the words that Jemima Sawyer
would hear drumming constantly, a few years back, as she sat nervously
in the stands. Her husband, and co-founder of Jemima’s Playhouse, Tyrone
Sawyer, Jr., competed in the supreme Track & Field event: the 100
meters. And he was very good! Challenging the likes of Usain Bolt (who
turned out to be the greatest world beater!) as a junior athlete. Jemima
recalls that her heart would beat so fast and her palms would sweat
with the anticipation of the exciting races...
