Bahamian Duo To Attend Regional Tennis Training Camp - Oct 5, 2015 - 4:34:02 PM

Nassau, Bahamas -  The BLTA extends warm congratulations to Jacobi Bain and Elana Mackey who have been invited by the ITF to participate in a Regional U13 Training Camp for the top players in the region.  The training camp begins October 5 and ends October 11.  Both players were selected  with the criteria of being the top 8 from that age bracket in the COTECC ranking.

We wish both Jacobi and Elana the best, as they travel to La Libertad, El Salvador to acquire more knowledge on how to improve their game.  The duo will be accompanied by Coach Bradley Bain.

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama - Now that Nassau’s successful Potcakeman triathlon earlier in September has gotten everyone’s feet wet athletes and multi-sport enthusiasts are looking forward to the annual Conchman triathlon on November 7th at Taino Beach.

In its 29th year the Conchman has long been a fixture on the calendars of both local and international athletes. Past winners have come from many of the Bahamian islands, the US, Canada and the UK to name a few...

NASSAU, Bahamas  – Registration for the 2016 Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure® is officially open.

The event, which is now in its sixth year, will be held on January 16, 2017.
Lead sponsor and organizer, Sunshine Insurance (Agents & Brokers) Ltd., held a launch party at the company’s Shirley Street location on Thursday to mark the occasion.

Company officials also unveiled its very first Komen Bahamas Anthem called, “ Save The World (Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure)”. The song was created and donated by Visage Band Bahamas members, Wendi Lewis and Dyson Knight...

Over 41 countries are expected in The Bahamas this weekend for the 43rd Central American Caribbean Bodybuilding (CAC) Championships that will be held at Atlantis Paradise Island from September 24-27.

It’s The Bahamas’ eighth time hosting the event.

The last time the country hosted the competition was in 2008.

They came, they saw, they rode! It was a weekend of excitement on the streets of Grand Bahama as cyclists took to the streets for the 11th Annual Grand Bahama Road Cycling Championships! As always it was a heated event, with high speeds from the beginning. And of course it would not be a Grand Bahama Cycling Championships without a bit of rain as the clouds threatened to open up and wash the cyclists in their cooling waters.
In the end, the cyclists were spared of the rain, but they were not spared of the blistering sun nor that battering wind...
Eleuthera Junior Baseball League registration starts this weekend - Sep 23, 2015 - 4:51:14 PM

The Eleuthera Junior Baseball League of Rock Sound will begin registration for the 2016 season this coming Saturday and next Saturday at the Baseball Park in Rock Sound from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children out to register at that time. President Larry Forbes invites All Settlements to register also and bring their team out next season to participate.

The 2016 season begins in January.

NASSAU, The Bahamas - This past weekend, September 19 & 20, Nassau Yacht Club hosted the Annual Bahamas Junior Sunfish National Championship.

Spencer Cartwright who is the current and 4 times National Champion in the Optimist Dinghy class has now won the Bahamas Junior Sunfish National Championship for his first time. Pushing hard and in the mix for top honors was Cochise Burrows. Such close racing made for a very suspenseful and exciting series. In the end Spencer beat Cochise by three points.

Nassau, Bahamas – With the cheers of thousands of spectators spurring him on and the claps of his coach encouraging him, twenty-one year old Denair Rolle delivered the winning throw that sealed his gold medal win in the Softball Throw at the Special Olympics World Games held in Los Angeles from July 25 to August 2.

The medal was one of three that he would claim for team Bahamas, securing a gold medal in the Standing Long Jump and a silver medal in the 100 Meter walk as well.

“I felt happy, brave and encouraged,” said Denair, who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at the age of 10.

Miller took the win in the women's 400m title with 50.4, just head of Francena McCorory, of the USA, second with 50.59, and Stephanie Ann McPherson of Jamaica  came third with 51.00.

Over 200 people took part in this year's Powerade Potcakeman Triathlon hosted by the Bahamas Alliance for Animal Rights and Kindness (BAARK) at Jaws Beach, Clifton Heritage Park, on September 5th. Event proceeds go towards BAARK!’s spay/neuter and education programmes across The Bahamas.

The Triathlon includes a 750m swim, a 21k bike, and a 5k run. The kid's event includes a 100m swim, 5k bike, and 1k run.

NASSAU, Bahamas – Sunshine Insurance Race Weekend (SIRW) on Monday donated $50,000 to five local cancer groups.

The money will be used to carry out genetic testing, purchase portacaths and assist Family Island cancer patients.

On Monday during a news conference at its headquarters, senior officials of Sunshine Insurance presented five $10,000 cheques to the Cancer Society of The Bahamas, the Cancer Association of Grand Bahama, Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group, the Bahamas Breast Cancer Initiative Foundation (BBCIF) and the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation...

This year alone, Strikers Boxing Club has competed in three of the largest international boxing tournaments in the world.
