FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, a leading figure from FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), the governing body for world soccer attended the launch of the new Grand Bahama Women’s Champions League on Sunday, March 1st held at the Freeport Football Rugby Club. He went on to Nassau after his visit in Grand Bahama.

Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein, third son of the late King Hussein, is vice president of the organisation’s Asia region and hit headlines round the globe when he announced in January he was to challenge Sepp Blatter for the presidency in an election in May.

Freeport, Bahamas - In an attempt to kick start all areas of boys/men’s soccer on the island, a new 7aside tournament will kick off after Easter aimed at men and senior boys (i.e. 16 and over).

Competition organizer Mark Hardy noted that the main aim was to get the senior players kicking a ball once again in a competitive but friendly and organized manner.

The Bahamas has a reigning state champion in wrestling.

Sean Wrinkle, a senior at Asheville School, won the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) state high school championship at the weekend. He defeated Bentley Dalton of Charlotte Latin School to win the 152 pounds title and help Asheville to a fifth place finish among 16 schools.

Freeport Rugby Football Club recently said farewell to a long-standing and valued member of the Club. Adolfo Vargas was a key coach in the successful youth soccer programme.

Coach Vargas was a mainstay of the youth academy ever since he arrived on the island 4 years ago, and his on-field coaching and off-field advice, demeanor, and leadership has been instrumental in developing the academy’s programme for boys aged 15 through 19 years.

Bahamians enjoyed all kinds of local food and drink, as well as engaged in a few games of dominoes, while they waited for the racing competition to yield a new champion. Paradise Island, Bahamas – A three-foot birdie putt at the difficult par-4 eighth hole Saturday lifted Gerina Piller into the overnight lead at 10 under par at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic, but that lead is tenuous with six players a stroke behind and 26 players within four shots heading into the final day.

Only six of the 74 players who made the cut completed the third round before play was suspended by darkness at 5:53 p.m. EST. The tournament will resume at 8 a.m. Sunday, and the final round will begin immediately after at 9:38 a.m. without the field being re-paired.
