ORLANDO, Fla.  – Golf Channel’s popular Big Break reality series will be produced at Atlantis, Paradise Island for its 17 th season, featuring an all-female cast and a special guest appearance from Women’s World No. 1 Yani Tseng.
 
Big Break Atlantis, taking place at the Bahamas resort and scheduled to premiere May 14, will feature a cast of 12 women competing against each other in an attempt to make real their lifelong dreams of playing alongside the world’s top golfers a reality.  The ultimate winner will receive an exemption to a to-be-announced 2012 LPGA Tournament, cash and other prizes...

Grand Bahama Cyclist Club to launch Junior Cycling Club, February 4th - Feb 3, 2012 - 12:53:09 PM

Freeport, Bahamas - On Saturday February 4th , 2012 the Grand Bahama Cyclist Club will launch its first ever Junior Cycling Club. The club will meet at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex this and every Saturday at 9:00am and is open to students aged 10 to 18. The goal of this program is to promote the sport of cycling on the island of Grand Bahama with the hope of carrying a 5 member team to compete in the Independence National Cycling Championships held during the month of July in New Providence. Beyond that, the goal of the club is to have one of its members compete as part of the Junior National Team at the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships, which will be held later in the year.

        

The start of this Junior Club also marks the start of the GBCC Points Series, which is a series of races that will be held until the month of October...

Canada and USA women's soccer teams make it into the London Olympics - Feb 2, 2012 - 3:01:29 PM

Vancouver, BC, CANADA - Both Team USA and Team Canada have made it into the London Olympics games to be held this summer from July 27th through August 12th.

Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) is the continental governing body for association football in North America, Central America and the Caribbean held their qualifying tournament over the past ten days in Vancouver.

Both Canada and USA won in their groups and played a championship match on January 29th closing out the tournament with a win for USA...

The 2012 Olympics will take place in London, England from July 27th through August 12th.

The Bahamas first participated in Track and Field in the Olympic Games in Melbourne where Thomas Robinson as an eighteen year old ran both 100 and 200m.

He placed fourth in the 100m and 200m heats with times of 11.06sec and 21.76sec respectively...

Nassau, Bahamas - More than 100 cyclists from as far away as California are gearing up for the 9th annual Tour of the Bahamas, the nation's premier cycling event, to be held January 28 and 29, 2012 in Nassau. Local and foreign competitors will ride side by side, vying for up to $16,000 in cash prizes and awards.

News of the event was unveiled at a press conference at the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture with Sports Director Tim Munnings who called Tour of The Bahamas "one of the most important events on the sports calendar..."

USA wins CONCACAF Group B Women's Olympic Qualifiers with 4- 1 final over Mexico - Jan 26, 2012 - 9:29:47 AM

Vancouver, BC, Canada - In what was definitely a refreshing match to watch after the USA squashed team Dominican Republic and team Guatamala in previous games, as team Mexico held their own throughout the game despite the 4 - 0 loss on January 24th, 2012. Over 8,000 fans were in stadium for the match.

USA came out strong but Mexico was able to show their talent and skill on the field throughout the play. Three goals were scored by Carli Lloyd (USA) in the 7th, 57th, and 86th minute  and one by Heather O’Reilly (USA) in the 8th minute.

After a three day break, play continues with the semi-finals on Friday...

Nassau, Bahamas -  This Saturday, January 28th the BAAA will hold the Annual BAAA National High School Relays featuring schools from New Providence and the Family Islands.

It promises to be an exciting event as schools prepare for the National High School Track and Field Championships scheduled for March 17th and 18th at the new Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium.

This will be the second meet of the BAAA 2012 schedule...

Vancouver, BC, CANADA - In what proved to be one of the widest spread goals in recent history in the game of women's professional soccer, Dominican Republic were most certainly the underdog champions to take such a licking in a end score of 14 - 0 for the United States who played as if it were a mere scrimmage.

The record most goals ever scored in a single Olympic qualifying tournament match was achieved by the USA team tonight.

Vancouver, BC, CANADA - The 2012 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying tournament got underway last night in Vancouver at BC Place stadium with over 7,000 fans in attendance. The opening match was between between Cuba and Costa Rica with the end result 2 - 0 for Costa Rica.

Christine Sinclair of Canada put in 4 goals in the opening 6-0 victory over Haiti in the second match where Canada totally dominated play throughout the game. Christina Julian of Ottawa Fury put in a goal, as well as Kelly Parker, also of Fury. ..

Freeport, Bahamas - Grand Bahama Sailing Club will once again be traveling for the 2012 Boomerang regatta, hosted by Fort Lauderdale Yacht Club. This Florida regatta is hugely popular with Junior sailors, and was one of the first regattas our junior racing team attended in 2011.

Now in 2012 with a year of training on our resume, we will be returning to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to make a more demanding impression.


With coordination from the Lauderdale Yacht Club, GBSC has secured 4 Optimists and 4 Laser Radials.

Nassau, Bahamas - Marathon Bahamas took place over the weekend with the full marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles), relay (4 persons/team) and Susan Komen Race for a Cure components. The marathon, now completing its third year was said to have generated 3000 room nights.

Overall winner of the full marathon was 33 year old Bryan Huberty of USA who finished with a net time of 2:42:53.

The full marathon started at 6:00am on January 15th with runners leaving Junkanoo Beach immediately west of downtown Nassau, heading...

Nassau, Bahamas - The T Bird Flyers hosted there annual Track and Field Classic starting on Friday the 13th, 2012 ending Saturday the 14th at the old Thomas A. Robinson Stadium.

The meet attracted 679 athletes, there was also a few athletes meeting the qualifying standards for the Carifta games which will be held in Bermuda during the Easter week. Head Coach Foster Dorsette was pleased with the meet. This year's Classic was an exciting event with many great performances...
