College senior Justin Roberts who played for the Arizona Sun Devils this past season was awarded the Southwest region Arthur Ashe Leadership &
Sportsmanship Award  by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this past weekend.

Roberts who hails from The Bahamas  has been a very impactful player and was the only senior on the Arizona tennis team. Justin singles record was 10-8  in 2019, primarily at the number three spot for the Sun Devils...

Minister Of Sports Thanks The 2019 IAAF World Relays Bahamian Athletes - May 17, 2019 - 9:40:56 AM

The IAAF World Relays is an international relay sporting event hosted by the International Association of Athletic Federations.  In 2014, the World Relays was born in Nassau as a trial edition and then again in 2015 and 2017.  Due to its success in The Bahamas, the IAAF has officially incorporated the event into its official calendar with the relays now being held every two years. 

The IAAF Relays now provide athletes with the additional opportunity to compete and qualify for both the World Championships, as well as the Olympic Games...

During matchplay on Day 1 Baker Newman won two competitve 3 setter tiebreak matches over Philip Major Jr.( 3-6, 7-6, 10-6) and Kevin Major Jr.( 3-6, 7-6, 10-5)

The UB Mingoes turned in strong performances at the 125th running of the University of Pennsylvania Relays over the weekend despite the rain and weather hurting much of their performances.

“It was a satisfying performance overall but I expected a bit more,” head coach Ednal Rolle said.

On the main day of competition for the Mingoes on Friday Franklin Field was drenched and temperatures dipped in the low 60’s. There were also two weather delays on Friday because of rain and lightning.

Jody Turnquest won the London Springs Slam Open in London Ontario Canada in April.

Jody entered the tournament seeded 2nd and won his opening match over Alessandro Sant Angelou who was seeded 3rd 6-3, 6-7, 7-6. He then faced Alejandro Cortes winning decisively  6-0 7-5. Jody then moved on to play Mike Lay where he won in two sets 6-1, 6-3.

In the finals Jody faced Stefan Frijanic where his consistent and talented tennis play proved to be more than enough as he won over Stefan 6-3, 6-3...

The Bahamas CARIFTA Track and Field Team returned home today from the Cayman Islands, where they competed in games during the Easter holiday weekend.  They placed second overall (Jamaica was first) with 26 medals.  The team is pictured in the LPIA Hall of Champions after disembarking their Bahamasair Charter.  Standing with them, at centre, are Minister of Social Services and Urban Development the Hon.
