Running Club Will Hold Annual Meeting At British Colonial Hilton

A club that travels the world to run in marathons is about to leave its footprint on another country – The Bahamas.

Marathon Globetrotters will be holding its annual meeting and club reunion at the British Colonial Hilton on January 17, 2015, a day before Marathon Bahamas takes place.

Marathon Globetrotters is a running club, which was founded in February by five runners from the United States and one from Sweden.

VERACRUZ, Mexico - The Central American and Caribbean Games women's 50m freestyle event saw a familiar face finishing in its top spot as Bahamian Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace earned another gold with a time of 25.24. This gold will go along with her other 3 gold medals earned during this competition. 

Earlier this week she won the 50m and 100m butterfly races, and the 100m freestyle. Puerto Rico's Vanessa Garcia took silver in the 50m with 25.63, and Mexico's Liliana Ibanez (Mexico) took bronze at 26.04.

24-year-old Arianna trains with Coach David Marsh at SwimMACElite, and swims collegiately in the USA for Auburn University.

VERACRUZ, Mexico - Bahamas swim team continues to excel in Mexico at the
Central American and Caribbean Games’ (CAC) with all the medals coming from two female swimming athletes, Arianna Vanderpool Wallace (3 Golds) and Joanna Evans now with 2 Silver medals.

A new national record was set last night in Veracruz by Evans who came second with 8:39:61 in the women's 800m freestyle. Adreina Pinto of Venezuela claimed gold, with Mexico's Natalia Jaspeado with bronze.

On Saturday the short 10 miles sprint race was held and later the short 8.4 miles individual time trial was stage.  On Sunday the road race was stage 15 miles sprint road race started and finish at the caves West Bay Street...

Eivind Melleby, the pride of Norway, returns for his second Star Sailors League Finals in 2014 - Nov 8, 2014 - 1:11:43 AM

Nassau, Bahamas - Born in Olso and Viking of stance, Eivind Melleby is both a superb athlete and a great person. Sitting 10th on the Star Sailors League Ranking List, he finished ninth in the first Finals in the Bahamas last year, fourth in the Star at the London Olympics in 2012 and third in the Worlds this year at Malcesine with Bruno Prada. Melleby is married with two children and also a successful businessman.

Since the finish of the Star Sailors League Finals 2013, Eivind has been focusing almost entirely on his career. He has been working hard on the start-up of a mobile marketing business with a company called TargetEveryOne (www.targeteveryone.com). He says he finds the project immensely exciting and the service was successfully launched last spring with the result that the company’s product is now available in 130 countries worldwide...

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - The 28th annual Conchman triathlon and Iron Kids took place Saturday November 1st,  2014 amidst beautiful weather for the annual family sporting event which takes place annually on the first Saturday in November at Taino Beach, Freeport.


The Conchman Triathlon is a 1K swim, followed by a 25K bike ride and 5K run. The kids' course includes a 200M swim,  5K bike ride, and  1K run.

Awards took place in the evening at Port Lucaya Marketplace...

Nassau, Bahamas - Greece too will now be represented at the 2014 Star Sailors League Finals at the Nassau Yacht Club in the Bahamas between December 2nd and 7th. Just like the Caribbean islands, the Eastern Mediterranean nation is one of the world’s most beautiful and famous yachting destinations, particularly for sailing. This is a country that lives on and by its sea, and is home to myriad stunning islands. Greece’s cultural and holiday tourism accounts for around one fifth of its GDP, in fact. It has also produced high profile sailors of the likes of Emilios Papathanasiou and Antonis Tsotras.

The Greek skipper with the highest ranking in the Star Sailors League (currently 11th) has five Olympics to his credit, four in the Finn (best result: fifth at Athens as well as three World silvers and one European Championship) and one in the Star at London...

Representatives from the National Stadium Authority (NSA), Ministry of Tourism (MOT) and Conference USA recently visited the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando in preparation for the upcoming Popeyes Bahamas Bowl on December 24 at noon at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium.

The goal of the trip was to experience the pre-game production for a college football game.

UCF is the second largest university in the US, and a team from the school will be working with Conference USA to produce Popeyes Bahamas Bowl...

From October 30 to November 2, the United States Embassy and the Junior Baseball League of Nassau (JBLN) partnered to host a series of youth baseball clinics and presentations conducted by former Major League Baseball (MLB) players Elias Sosa and Armando Rios. Elias Sosa currently serves as the Latin American Coordinator for MLB International. He was a MLB pitcher for twelve years and has worked as a Minor League pitching coach for several teams. Armando Rios is a youth baseball league coach, scout, recruiter and hitting instructor for professional baseball players. He is also the instructor for MLB’s International Envoy Program for Latin America and has played for the San Francisco Giants, Pittsburg Pirates and Chicago White Sox.

Nassau, Bahamas – Over the weekend, sculling fans from both near and far gathered along the shoreline at Fort Montagu beach to see if Clayton Bain would once again emerge as the sculling champion. For the 3rd year in a row, he proved that he is indeed the champion.

“The trash talking started hours before the race,” exclaimed Lynden Johnson, Bahamian Brewery Director of Sales and Marketing. “The scullers were all bragging about their ability and the spectators wondered who would be crowned the champion. The atmosphere at Montagu Beach was fantastic for sculling and we couldn’t hope for the day to have gone any better...”

Eight Bahamian athletes competed against 72 other countries at the Judo World Juniors tournament in Miami Florida. They received draws against tough competitors with impressive records. They put up a good showing but in the end no one made it past the first round.

All fighters performed at their personal best, looking competitive in the matches and many of them lasting over two minutes of the four minute matches. “It was a good experience” said Cynthia Rahming, who fought top seeded Brazil for 2 minutes and 57 seconds. “It’s definitely an improvement on my Commonwealth Games performance against a more seasoned opponent. The Star Sailors League is pleased to announce that its second grand finale once again takes place in Nassau in the Bahamas between December 2nd and 7th.

Reigning champions Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada will be tackling 19 very competitive teams in this second edition, two more than last year, with a purse of 200,000 dollars on the table. The top-ranked crew at the end of the event will take home 40,000 dollars, in fact.

Aside from the winners’ prize (sponsored by the Symonette family), there will also be trophies for teams that, over the course of the year, dominated the special ranking lists drawn up by the Star Sailors League.

Nassau, Bahamas - The first meet of the year was held in Nassau on January 5th. 

The Odd Distance Track and Field Meet began the 83 day countdown to CARIFTA 2013 and will act as a measuring stick by coaches and athletes to test fitness and progress going into the new season.

Athletes home for the holidays were expected to compete in the event, which had over 400 entries.

Nassau Bahamas - Robert Stanjek will be attempting to bring a stunning 2014 season to a fittingly impressive conclusion in the big upcoming Finals in Nassau in two weeks’ time. The second half of the year has proved particularly rewarding for the German sailor. In July, he and his friend and companion in many sailing adventures, Fritjhof Kleen (who is being replaced in the Bahamas by Dane Claus Olesen because of an injury) won the Star World Champion title, triumphing in a fleet of 87 boats at Malcesine on Lake Garda, and earning themselves a place in the annals of the sailing greats. Stanjek’s name was engraved on the cup that already sports many of the most famous names in sailing.
