Golfer Zecheng 'Marty' Dou of Beijing, China, won the  Web.com 'Bahamas Great Exuma Classic' at Sandals Emerald Bay - Emerald Reef Course, January 13-16, 2019.  He is photographed accepting his trophy, Wednesday, from Ministry of Tourism Sports Development Manager Eldece Clarke.  Web.com's golf tour moves on to Abaco -- the 'Bahamas Great Abaco Classic', and will take place at The Abaco Club on Winding Bay, January 20-23, 2019.

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association congratulates Jacobi Bain for advancing in Boys Doubles in the 55TH Coffee Bowl in Costa Rica.

Jacobi Bain (BAH) and partner Marko Andrejic (AUT) defeated Alfredo Casso and Jackson Ross (both from the USA) 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 to advance to the Round of 16 on Wednesday.

Jacobi, the current JITIC U16 Champion was awarded entrance into this Grade 1 tournament...
Padraig Harrington named 2020 European Ryder Cup captain - Jan 8, 2019 - 10:16:39 AM

Padraig Harrington has been named as the European Captain for The 2020 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin from September 25 – 27, 2020.

The three-time Major Champion has a storied Ryder Cup career, having represented Europe six times as a player – including being part of four triumphs – while latterly he has brought his extensive experience to the role of Vice-Captain in the past three editions of the biennial contest.

The 47 year old joins Paul McGinley (2014) and Darren Clarke (2016), as professionals from the island of Ireland to lead Europe and will be hoping to emulate the last European triumph on American soil – at Medinah in 2012...

Pinder’s Brokerage to run in Komen Bahamas in memory of company matriarch - Jan 7, 2019 - 8:30:01 AM

It’s been just a little over two months since Helen Pinder, the matriarch of Pinder’s Customs Brokerage Ltd., lost her battle with breast cancer. Now, more than half of the staff at her company, along with their family members, will take part in a local cancer run this month in her memory – continuing a tradition she started five years ago.

“She was like the sun. She was the center and lit up everything,” said Shannon Pinder, as she reflected on the memory of her late mother-in-law.

Friends In Training (FIT) started two decades ago to make a positive impact on the community. The group provides training and support with the goal of getting its members to the finish line.

Lima, Peru; 4 January 2019: Lima 2019’s end of year budgetary analysis has confirmed that 98.5% of the organising committee’s spending last year was dedicated to permanent sports infrastructure, as preparations for Peru’s first Pan American and Parapan American Games continue to leave a valuable, tangible legacy for the country.

In total, 966.2 million soles (USD 286.45m) of the total 981.4 million soles (USD 290.95m) organising committee budget for 2018 was invested in infrastructure projects that will ensure a world-class Pan American and Parapan American Games that deliver lasting benefits to communities in Lima and across Peru...

Results of 17th Annual Bul Reg Regatta in Exuma - Dec 31, 2018 - 5:21:35 PM

17th Annual Bul Reg Regatta for Class C Boats was held over the weekend in George Town, Exuma. The Cameron Williams Cup Race was the only race held during day two (held in honour of the late Jr. Skipper). 

Winning the cup race was Bul Reg.   Golden Girl came 2nd;  and Bye Gully  came 3rd. 

2018 Winners of the BLTA Giorgio Baldacci Open Tennis Nationals - Dec 23, 2018 - 5:50:48 PM

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association 2018 Giorgio Baldacci winners are Donte Armbrister for the males and Sydney Clarke for the females.   Sydney and Donte have exhibited great skill throughout the tournament and were also victorious today. Both players went undefeated in match play.

The talented finalists are Justin Lunn and Sierra Donaldson. Justin and Sierra are former Davis Cup and Fed Cup members respectively.

Rounding out the top five for the males include Jacobi Bain, Shannon Francis and Jody Turnquest and for the females it includes Perjae Major, Afrika Smith and Donesha Gibson...

The Grand Bahama American Women’s Club’s 16th annual golf tournament launches Feb. 23., 2019 at the Reef Course in Freeport. The fundraiser, which has generated over $100,000 for high school scholarships in recent years, draws dozens of golfers from on and off the island.

In 2108, the GBAWC awarded scholarships to 21 students, and donated to The Children’s Library, Girl Guides, Grand Bahama Humane Society, Rand Nature Center, Regency Theater, Reef Ball Project, Salvation Army, Sailing Club, Us Too Prostate Cancer Awareness and the YMCA for summer camp programs and community improvement projects...

Bahamian Justin Lunn , 2017 Davis Cup member will face Donte Armbrister the #1 nationally and internationally ranked male junior in The Bahamas.

On the ladies side 2017 Fed Cuper Sydney Clarke the #1 nationally and internationally ranked female junior is continuing her superb season and will face off against Collegiate Tennis Player and 2018 Fed Cup Member Sierra Donaldson.

After a night of fun and relaxation at the welcome reception, Toledo and FIU each hit the practice field for the first time in the Bahamas Tuesday morning in preparation for the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl.

For Toledo offensive coordinator Brian Wright, it was nice to his offense get back to the practice field.

“I thought we were real good at practice today. The energy was there,” said Wright. “We started off a little bit sluggish, after riding on a plane and the buses and the hotel, but once we got going I was happy with what we were able to get done.”...

The athletes are getting set to play in The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA's) Giorgio Baldacci Open Tournament.  The late Giorgio Baldacci was a tennis coach who gave unselfishly to the sport in The Bahamas. He contributed to the growth and development of some of our tennis players and the Bahamas Annual Open Tennis Nationals is named in his honor.

The tournament will be held at The National Tennis Centre(NTC) from December 17th -22nd  2018. It is open to all and will feature some of the best in Bahamian Tennis....

A retired mother of eight who took up running after her marriage ended is gearing up to participate in Marathon Bahamas in January.

For nearly 10 years, Sunshine Insurance (Agents & Brokers) Ltd. has been staging Marathon Bahamas and Z. Eve Maycock Dorsett has been there for almost every one of them.

January’s race will mark the 10th anniversary of the endurance event and Dorsett’s 10th year participating. ..
