A Marathon Bahamas program that allows middle school students to run their first marathon is back for a fourth year in a row.

The Aliv sponsored, Orange Nation, will once again welcome junior participants for Marathon Bahamas’ 10th anniversary in January.

Aliv is a platinum sponsor of the event. Aliv’s sponsorship allows students to register for free. Aliv is also donating two phones to the male and female student winners...

Bahamain Kevin Major Jr. is the Winner of the 2018 UTR/Reel Tennis Open Circuit 9 (Prize Money Tournament) in Plantation, Florida. 3rd seeded Kevin Major defeated the #1 seeded Zandrix Acob7-6(6); 6-1.

Michael Major Jr. and Jalisa Clarke have been selected by the International Tennis Federation(ITF) to be a part of the U12 Camp in Sub Region 3.

Accompanying the players is Coach Marion Bain.

The invited players were selected based on their performance in the last 12 months of the ITF and COTECC organized events. The event will be held November 19-23rd 2018 at the Centro Español, Inc...

The fourth event in The Winterbotham IC Junior Tennis Series went to Freeport last weekend and again proved very successful.

This unique series for 10 & under and 12 & under junior tennis players based on a round robin format over just one weekend attracted participants from both Freeport and New Providence. So it once again widened the participation in this important development group for the future of Bahamian tennis...
The competition took place on the Y.M.C.A. courts with the IC organisation working together  with The Grand Bahama Tennis Association and its coaches to stage the event.
Winterbotham Tennis Series moves to Freeport - Nov 2, 2018 - 11:26:15 AM

After three very successful events at the National Tennis Centre, Albany Tennis Academy and Baha Mar in New Providence the Winterbotham IC Junior Series moves to Freeport on this weekend November 3rd & 4th.

This tennis series designed for the important development ages of 10’s and 12’s is organised by the IC of The Bahamas ( part of 40 International Tennis Clubs comprised of top players who also give back to the development of their sport).

Different to many straight knock out events The Winterbotham IC Series is played on a round robin basis over just one weekend using a short set format. For the 10 & under group special slower soft balls are used.

The 242 Colour Run graced the streets of Nassau for the sixth consecutive year on Sunday. The event attracted over 300 participants and scores of volunteers, all which ended up covered in sweat and colour. The event benefited the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of East Nassau.

The 2018 Star World Champions, Brazilians Jorge Zarif and Guilherme de Almeida, will attend the SSL Finals 2018 from December 3 – 8 in Nassau, Bahamas. It’s tradition, and one of the SSL Finals rules of admission, that the current year Star World Champions are invited to join the top ten skippers of the ranking and the VIPs at the SSL Finals in Nassau, Bahamas, and this year the Star Sailors League is very happy to welcome Olympic Finn sailor, and former Finn World Champion, Jorge Zarif with his crew and long time Star sailor, Guilherme de Almeida.

On a brisk Saturday morning in September, the team at Spectrum Health Center (off Rosetta Street) hosted its first Annual Back-To-School Walkathon. “We had a good turnout,” shared Dr. Juanita Pratt, Operations Manager. “Some of the top runners and power walkers in the country participated in the event, along with the physicians who practice at Spectrum Health and other people who just wanted to have some fun and support a good cause.” Participants walked or ran almost 4 miles (6km) from Spectrum Health Center to Montagu Beach and back. The UB Mingoes soccer team—thanks to some great defense—defeated the Warriors 2-1 to remain Sunday undefeated in the Bahamas Football Association preseason.

The MINGOES scored twice in the match at the Roscow A.L. Davies Field—once from Elcott Johnson in the 35th minute and an own goal in the 70th minute.

They’re young and talented and the Star Sailors League Finals 2018 will be their first time racing a Star boat and racing one against the other. Ondrej Teply (CZE) and Guido Gallinaro (ITA) both freshly crowned Junior World Champions 2018 in the Finn and Laser Radial class respectively.

Both started sailing very young and both went racing in Optimist national regattas as soon as they turned eight. Sailing, for both of them, was a passion written in their DNA. Before they were able to be at the helm themselves, they would go and watch regattas from the RIBs.

Since 1986, the event has provided an environment of friendly competition for both residents and visitors while encouraging physical health activity.

Over the years, the event which has grown in popularity has attracted some of the world’s preeminent triathletes. None more famous than Hector Picard. Picard, 52, exemplifies courage and strength in the face of adversity and his story continues to inspire new generations of triathletes. In 1992, Picard, lost his entire right arm and half of his left because of an accident while working as an electrician.

The UB Mingoes men’s soccer team opened the season with a 0-0 draw against Penn State Altoona and then a 3-0 loss to Mount Aloysius College.

The Mingoes ended in a 0-0 tie against Penn State Altoona Thursday in Altoona, Pennsylvania and then lost 3-0 against Mount Aloysius College Saturday in Cresson, Pennsylvania.

BreAnn Ferguson  was a double crown winner as she outshined everyone else in two Florida based tournaments.  The tournaments were both USTA certified tournaments where highly competitive tennis athletes around the United States and other countries participate.

The first tournament held the weekend of August 11th was "Lake Cane Summer Challenge Level 6" where BreAnn participated in the Girls 10s Green Dot Level 1.  The format of play was round robin and the pool consisted of four girls.  BreAnn proved her skill and dominance by going undefeated in tournament play!

Continuing on to the second tournament "Friends of Miami Tennis Level 6" BreAnn once again had the opportunity to display her tennis abilities...
