UB Mingoes Win Their First Game - Mar 5, 2017 - 11:07:32 AM

The University of The Bahamas (UB) men's basketball team played its first game under its new name, (UB) Mingoes, Saturday, March 4, at the Kendall Isaacs Gymnasium. On this occasion, the university's "Mingoes" Mascot made a debut. The name 'mingoes' is in recognition of the National Bird, the flamingo.  UB President Dr. Rodney Smith, enjoyed the game, along with students, staff and faculty.

Presenting its athletics brand to the community, the University of The Bahamas (UB) held a fun-filled 'UB Blue Day and Pep Rally' on Thursday, March 2, at the Oakes Field Campus, introducing the men's basketball team, 'UB Mingoes,' and the institution's 'Mingoes Mascot' to the student body and the general public.

The word, Mingoes, is in recognition of the National Bird, the flamingo.

The Eleuthera Junior Baseball League of Rock Sound will be hosting the opening of its 2017 Baseball Season in Rock Sound on Saturday 4th March 2017 at 1:00.pm.

President Larry Forbes predicts that they will have a fantastic season this year as teams from Rock Sound, Green Castle, Tarpum Bay and Palmetto Point  will be participating in the Minor (9-12) Division, and Rock Sound and Green Castle will be participating in the Junior (13-15) Division.

Bahamas Judo had it's best international performance ever at the Florida Open on February 25th. All 18 athletes medalled! Some attained multiple medals for multiple divisions. In total a haul was made of 9 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze. Trophies for 2nd Best Team overall, and best male senior athlete (Joshua Mcfall).

Registration is now open online for the ninth annual Sunshine Insurance Marathon Bahamas (SIMB), to be held in 2018.

The race will be held on January 14 at 6:00 a.m. It will start at Junkanoo Beach and end at Arawak Cay. The 26.1 mile race will take endurance runners along the northern coast of the island.

Bahamas U14 water polo team took a 3rd place bronze in the South Florida International Tournament on Sunday, February 19th at the Coral Springs Aquatix Complex.

CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship hosts Bahamas wrapped up top spot in Group A with their third win of the tournament as Lesly St. Fleur’s hat-trick ensured a 3-2 win over Jamaica.

Both sides were guaranteed quarter-final places before kick-off but, with first place on offer, it was Jamaica who battle back from a goal down to lead.

CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship hosts Bahamas were 4-1 winners against Guyana in their opening game of the competition on Monday.

The home nation sit top of Group A after the opening round of matches and had a Lesley St. Fleur hat-trick to thank as they picked up maximum points in front a vibrant home crowd against a Guyana side making their first appearance at the tournament.
