"On your mark...get set...GO!" Those are the words that Jemima Sawyer would hear drumming constantly, a few years back, as she sat nervously in the stands. Her husband, and co-founder of Jemima’s Playhouse, Tyrone Sawyer, Jr., competed in the supreme Track & Field event: the 100 meters. And he was very good! Challenging the likes of Usain Bolt (who turned out to be the greatest world beater!) as a junior athlete. Jemima recalls that her heart would beat so fast and her palms would sweat with the anticipation of the exciting races...

In the second of the Winterbotham IC Junior Series for 10's and 12's there were record numbers participating in this young group of developing players. So it was a busy weekend at The Lleyton Hewitt Tennis Academy at Albany for the first Bahamian Tennis Tournament to be held there.

The concept of the event is to create a group that can come together and develop together through "Round Robin" play in a social environment that does not mean getting knocked out after one round and going home.  So all players get several matches...

AUSTRALIA -  In Saturday's finals for the men's 4 x 400 metre at the Gold Coast XXI Commonwealth Games, Bahamas took silver with an SB of 3:01.92, just behind gold medalists, Botswana with with 3:01.78. Jamaica came third with 3:01.97.  Congrats to Ramon Miller, Michael Mathieu, Alozo Russell and Ojay Ferguson!

On Friday, the team thought they had lost their chance to advance to the finals, but then Australia was disqualified because one of their team took up the wrong position for the final baton change. This moved The Bahamas into 3rd place...

Just one game stands in the way of a spot in the Heineken Cup finals, for Freeport Rugby Club. But before the final showdown, Freeport must take care of business this Saturday the 14th against Nassau’s Baillou squad that have proven to be tough competitor all season.

Though Freeport emerged victorious in two regular-season games against Baillou, the Nassau club has not gone away quietly. After escaping with a 43-35 win in Nassau, Freeport barely edged out Baillou at home on March 24 in a 29-28 nail-biting win...

The DTSP Wolf Pack Track club will host its first annual track meet on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium. The event will be called the DTSP Wolf Pack/ Walter Callander Track Meet and will feature competitions in sprint races - 100m, 200, and 400m as well as relay and hurdle races. There will also be middle distance races including the 800m and 1500m. Athletes from other track clubs are invited to join in the events, which will also include javelin, shot put, and discus throws as well as long and high jump...

This weekend The Lleyton Hewitt Tennis Academy at Albany will host its first junior tennis tournament in The Bahamas.  It will be the second event in The Winterbotham IC Junior Series that proved very popular at its first event in February at The National Tennis Centre.  The IC Junior Series continues through the year with the third event that will be at The Raquet Club at Baha Mar in May.

This series for the young ages of 10’s and 12’s is on a round robin basis to give all players maximum playing experience at this important development stage...

Our top female Sydney Clarke and our top two (2)  males Donte Armbrister and Jacobi Bain on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Circuit are currently in Trinidad participating in the Trinidad Trinity Cup.  Sydney is seeded No. 5 (32-Draw) in Singles and No. 3 in Doubles (16-Draw).  Donte is seeded No. 8 (32-Draw) in Singles and No. 3 in Doubles (16-Draw).

Sydney played her 1st  Singles Round today and won convincingly 6-0, 6-0 against Jade Tom Yew of Trinidad...

Happy champions, happy parents, happy officials -- the Bahamas Water Polo Team won gold medals in all three age categories of Under 14, Under 16 and Under 19 after competition at CARIFTA in Jamaica.  They returned home yesterday evening, victorious -- pictured at LPIA. 

The team was met and congratulated by Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Michael Pintard.

The girls' team of Genesis Missick, Kaylee Kanuka and Kinza Johnson departed Nassau yesterday to participate in the World Junior Tennis Competition being held in Guatemala this coming week. Mr. Godfrey Bowe of Freeport is going into his second week as captain.

The girls are in Pool B alongside El Salvador and Curacao and will play in a round-robin round first.  The top two teams in each pool will advance to the main draw. The girls will play the No. 2 seeded team in the tournament - El Salvador...

With the countdown to the start of Flow CARIFTA 2018 set for March 30 - April 2 in Nassau, Commonwealth Bank today announced a $30,000 donation to boost coffers for the host country.

This will be the 8th time The Bahamas plays host to the premier track and field meet. Some 600 athletes along with 100 team officials from 26 countries are expected to descend on Nassau with track and field stars and superstars competing in 65 events...

With a history of more than 2,500 years, the sport of dragon boating will officially be introduced to The Islands Of The Bahamas as a result of the partnership between the Ministry of Tourism & Aviation (MOTA) and the Florida based dragon boat company, High Five.

With Junkanoo rush outs, dragon boats, and numerous cultural activities, the event dubbed the Junkanoo Dragon Boat Race and Festival will be the newest event added to MOTA calendar for Grand Bahama Island to date...

A new premium sports channel is launching in the Caribbean! Flow Sports 2, which goes live today, will be the home of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Commonwealth Games – both live sports properties that are only available to Flow.

Flow Sports 2 will be exclusively available to TV customers of Flow and BTC.  The channel will be packed with “must see” premium international and regional live sports starting with the Commonwealth Games on the 4th of April and the IPL which starts on the 7th of April...

The Great Abaco Family Fitness Weekend returns to Treasure Cay on March 16th-18th. The three day event encourages family and friends to participate in fun and friendly competition. The ever beautiful beaches and waters of Abaco set a perfect backdrop for the athletic events.

The events consist of a 1-mile open water swim on Friday, triathlons and a kid’s 1-mile run on Saturday, and a 5k/10k fun run/walk on Sunday. Participants can enter one or all events as desired. Teams of 2 or 3 persons can also compete in the triathlons, consisting of swim, bike and run legs...

Plans for the Ninth Annual Wahoo Tournament in Great Harbor Cay, Bahamas are well underway.  The fun event, which offers a Calcutta purse, will take place February 22-25, and is expected to attract anglers from the United States of America and The Bahamas.

Among some of the weekend’s planned activities are a captain’s meeting and reception on February 22, two days of fishing on February 23rd and 24th, a chill and grill party featuring live entertainment, junkanoo rush out and a gala awards dinner...
