Nassau, Bahamas -- The Royal Commonwealth Society has launched the 2010 Young Commonwealth Competitions under the theme “Science, Technology and Society.” The competition is open to anyone living in a Commonwealth country under the age of 30.

Over 60,000 young persons enter the competitions, which are held under a different theme each year. The objectives of the competitions include the opportunity to nurture the creative talent of young people, encourage the youth to respond to current international events, enable young people to share their thoughts with peers around the world and promote the use of the English Language.

Participants may have the opportunity to take part in expert workshops with leading figures; meet with famous authors, film directors and photographers at a gala awards...

Freeport, Grand Bahama - The Freeport Players’ Guild announces the 2010 High School Playwriting Competition. This contest is open to all high school students of Grades 10-12 in Grand Bahama.

Students will be required to write a one act play with no more than eight (8) characters. Play structure, realistic dialogue, staging, and characterization will be studied by the judges. This is a great way for high school students to hone their writing skills and encourage their friends to perform on stage.

Three Grand Prize winners will be selected by the judges to have their plays performed at the Regency Theatre in October. The winning writers will be apprenticed to a veteran director of the Freeport Players’ Guild and mentored in directing a play. Students from all schools are invited to audition for roles in the plays once the winners have been announced...

YABT & PepsiCo Launched the "Eco-Challenge" - TIC Americas Water Conservation Awards - Dec 1, 2009 - 9:01:14 PM

As part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week activities that took place Nov 16-19 at the San Ignacio de Loyola University in Lima, PepsiCo and the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) launched their Eco-Challenge campaign, a competition for young people from Latin America and the Caribbean and entries are accepted until March 1st 2010. The Eco-Challenge seeks to create awareness about water conservation while promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Eco-Challenge is part of the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas) organized by YABT and the OAS since 2006.

The Eco-Challenge consists of two challenges and awards:

Nassau, Bahamas - Supermodel of the Bahamas is in its third year and the event has grown to become the number one Model Search in The Bahamas.  With the event branching into a reality television show in the year 2008 with JCN network, channel 14, the Model Search has quickly become a favorite show in The Bahamas.

Now in its third season, the organization is once again searching for young men, women and children (ages 3 - 21) for their 2010 competition, and will be in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island on November 28th and 29th at the International Bazaar (main arcade) from Noon to 4pm.

Nassau, Bahamas - The Downtown Nassau Partnership (DNP) announced today it will sponsor its first annual Holiday Window and Storefront Decorating Contest with winners in three geographical areas.

“Over the next month, Nassau will welcome two new cruise ships, including the first ship in the mega Genesis class, the Oasis of the Seas that makes Nassau its first foreign port of call December 11, and we want to pull out all the stops showing thousands of passengers our historic city dressed up for the holidays with originality, authenticity, thousands of lights, decorations and a festive spirit,” said Vaughn Roberts.

Registration for the contest opens today and continues until December 7 when all decorations have to be in place...

As part of the Prime Minister’s announced Work Programme, commencing Monday 14th December 2009, the 110 Tourism Apprentices will be put through the industry’s exciting and rigorous programme for a period of six months.

Nassau, The Bahamas - Filmmaker and music video director Brett Ratner will be returning to The Bahamas to shoot another project soon – and he’s looking for a few Bahamians to be a part of the production as extras. Ratner has had blockbuster success with movies like The Family Man, X-Men: The Last Stand and the Rush Hour series which featured Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Ratner’s last Bahamian project was After the Sunset, which showcased Salma Hayek, Peirce Brosnon and the unofficial Bahamian star, the Atlantis resort of Paradise Island.

Now, Ratner returns to Atlantis to shoot a commercial for the resort and plans to cast some lucky Bahamians this weekend (casting is on Saturday and Sunday) to be seen worldwide. Ratner is working with local casting company Sharma Entertainment to seek Caucasians, Asians and Latinos between the ages of 8 and 55 with various looks. Entire families welcome. All extras will be compensated $150 for a day’s work...
