The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) congratulates Justin Roberts on a successful return back to the Tennis Pro Circuit.

Justin played in the USA F25 Futures held in Laguna Niguel, California where he made it to the second round main draw.

Ready, Set, Go! Come November 3rd the sound of the starting pistol will signal another exciting GBPA Conchman Triathlon, which returns to the beautiful Taino Beach on Grand Bahama Island. Since 1986, the event has provided an environment of friendly competition for both residents and visitors while encouraging physical health activity.

Over the years, the event which has grown in popularity has attracted some of the world’s preeminent triathletes. None more famous than Hector Picard. Picard, 52, exemplifies courage and strength in the face of adversity and his story continues to inspire new generations of triathletes. In 1992, Picard, lost his entire right arm and half of his left because of an accident while working as an electrician.

The UB Mingoes men’s soccer team opened the season with a 0-0 draw against Penn State Altoona and then a 3-0 loss to Mount Aloysius College.

The Mingoes ended in a 0-0 tie against Penn State Altoona Thursday in Altoona, Pennsylvania and then lost 3-0 against Mount Aloysius College Saturday in Cresson, Pennsylvania.

Bahamains Sydney Clarke and Donte Armbrister continued their summer tennis tournament competitions packing their bags and heading to Trinidad and Tobago after their singles(Sydney) and doubles (Sydney and Donte) finals appearances in St Lucia's Coca Cola ITF Tournament.

Sydney has once again proven her consistency, tenacity and tennis acumen by securing final berths in both singles and doubles in Tobago's U18 ITF. Sydney who is seeded #1 due to her under 500 international ranking swept through the singles competition defeating Kentish from Antigua...
BreAnn Ferguson is a double winner at two USTA Tournaments - Aug 23, 2018 - 6:12:35 AM

BreAnn Ferguson  was a double crown winner as she outshined everyone else in two Florida based tournaments.  The tournaments were both USTA certified tournaments where highly competitive tennis athletes around the United States and other countries participate.

The first tournament held the weekend of August 11th was "Lake Cane Summer Challenge Level 6" where BreAnn participated in the Girls 10s Green Dot Level 1.  The format of play was round robin and the pool consisted of four girls.  BreAnn proved her skill and dominance by going undefeated in tournament play!

Continuing on to the second tournament "Friends of Miami Tennis Level 6" BreAnn once again had the opportunity to display her tennis abilities...

The UB Mingoes men’s soccer team prepares to open the season Thursday August 23, 2018 against Penn State Altoona in Altoona Pennsylvania.

The Mingoes also play Mount Aloysius College Saturday August 25, 2018 in Cresson, Pennsylvania as well as a part of the two-match opening tour.

Head Coach Dion Godet says he has high expectations for the team that won the local Bahamas Football Association league last season.
UB Mingoes find positives in loss to Northern Arizona University - Aug 20, 2018 - 4:30:01 PM

Justin Smith hit seven three-pointers to lead the UB Mingoes with 27 points in the loss to The Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks 92-82 in Summer of Thunder action on Sunday August 19, 2018 at The Kendal Issacs gym.

The Mingoes got within single digits of the division one school twice in the fourth quarter but just ran out of time. Smith said that despite the loss the team looks good for the regular season.

“The Lumberjacks play systematic basketball and we were able to get within single digits at one point,” he said. “The teams we will see this season aren’t any better than them so as long as we play as a team...

Shaunae Miller-Uibo of The Bahamas set a Meeting Record of 22.15 in the Women's 200m at the 2018 Müller Grand Prix Birmingham, UK.

Her time was 22.15. Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith came second with 22.31, and Netherland's Dane Schippers came third with 22.41 while Sherika Jackson of Jamaica took fourth with 22.55.

Olympic 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo had to produce the fastest run of her career to hold off the challenge of Bahrain’s 20-year-old Salwa Naser Eid on a steamy night in the Stade Louis II stadium on Friday (20). And she did, setting an IAAF Diamond League and Bahamian record of 48.97.

Her smaller opponent was second in 49.08, taking almost half a second off her own Asian record.

Bahamian Joanna Evans of Grand Bahama won the first gold for Team Bahamas at the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia. 

In the 400 m freestyle Evans clocked a time of 4:11.15, setting a new meet record.

This was The Bahamas first medal  of the event, and a games' record breaking performance...

The Bahamas Fed Cup Team has gotten off to a blazing start!  The Bahamas faced the number one seeded country in the tournament, Bolivia. In the first match of the day, Danielle Thompson opened up competiion with a strong performance against Daniela La Fuente Strassburger of Bolivia.  Bahamain Danielle won in straight sets 6,3 6,2.  Danielle expressed that there were some nerves at the beginning but she wanted to come out strong.  "Representing my country with the letters on my back and my teammates cheering me on was really good" said Danielle.  She said she played to the best of her ability and left it all on the court.  She wanted to set the tone for the day. And the tone was set from her fine performance hot out of the gates.  Teammate Kerrie Cartwright said that "Danielle came out aggressive and eager and I loved her energy and also loved watching her play.".....

Dozens of young athletes got an introduction to the sport of wrestling through a summer clinic offered by Miami’s Inner City Wrestling Club (ICW) in association with the Bahamas Amateur Wrestling Federation (BAWF).

Coach Wilbert Johnson, ICW program manager, led a team of coaches and other volunteers to Nassau, where they gave lessons in core wrestling skills. Shaunae Miller-Uibo sets Meeting Record for Women's 200m in Rabat - Jul 14, 2018 - 1:24:45 AM

Bahamas' Shaunae Miller-Uibo competed in the women’s 200m on July 13 and set a meeting record of 22.29 in the Women's 200m at the 2018 Meeting International Mohammed VI in Rabat, Morocco.

Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain placed second with 22.40, and in third was Jenna Prandini of the USA with a time of 22.60.  

Miller-Uibo was the only Bahamian at the event in Rabat.
BLTA - Junior Tennis Nationals Close Out In Stride - Jul 12, 2018 - 2:39:00 PM

Congratulations go out to the Winners and Runners-up of our recently held Junior Nationals. Approximately 70 entrants participated in the annual tournament.  Also, scores of family members, friends, and tennis enthusiasts came out to cheer for their favourite player.  Special thanks go out to Tournament Director Wesley Rolle, and Ceron Rolle & Steve Taylor who rendered assistance. Appreciation is also extended to  Christina Galanos, LLb for sponsoring the trophies;  Michelle Telecanos for ensuring that the courts and facility were in order and Nadine Munroe who assisted with Registration.
