The Hon. Iram Lewis, on behalf of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture is pleased to congratulate Grand Bahamian native, Michael Strachan on achieving his dream of playing football in the National Football League (NFL) by being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts during the 2021 draft held on May 1, 2021.

Selected in the seventh round, Strachan becomes the latest Bahamian athlete to join an impressive pool of NFL athletes, past and present with Bahamian heritage to be drafted into the NFL. Ed Smith (Denver Broncos), Allan Ingraham (Washington Redskins) and Myron Rolle (Tennessee Titans) are just some of the many included.  Strachan is the latest Bahamas-born player since Devard Darling was drafted in 2004 by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round.

At 6’5”, 226 pounds makes Strachan a very imposing target; and, combined with his speed and athleticism, the Colts could not have made a better choice.

As a former University of Charleston standout athlete Strachan caught 127 passes for 2,332 yards with 27 touchdowns in three seasons at Charleston.  Strachan led his National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II (DII) team to an 8-3 win/loss record, 7-3 Mountain East Conference (MEC) in 2019 and posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in the 2018 and 2019 on his way to earning second-team All-American honors in 2019 for Charleston and selected to the 2019 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All- America team.  Strachan finished his collegiate career with 78 receptions for 1,319 yards and 19 touchdowns in his final season with the Golden Eagles.

Numerous accolades and achievements followed Strachan throughout his collegiate athletic career.
The Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture and by extension the Government and people of The Bahamas are extremely proud of Michael Strachan and we again extend our congratulations to him and his entire family.  Michael, you have demonstrated with your hard work, commitment and dedication that dreams can come true.
