Twenty six Turks and Caicos public servants who recently received degrees demonstrating their commitment to personal and professional improvement are recognised by the Deputy Governor’s monthly spotlight initiative, it was announced today, Thursday, 11 December 2014.

The group consisted of 19 TCIG civil servants, and seven staff from statutory bodies, who graduated with bachelors and associate degrees in Education, Primary Education and Business Studies awarded by the TCI Community College.

“We are committed to making the public service a truly vocational career that provides the best possible service to the people of this country,” said the Honourable Anya Williams, Deputy Governor and leader of the civil service.

“The degree courses chosen by our people reflect our joint ambitions, providing real professional development and, in some instances, allowing people to retrain for new careers that help address areas where we need more resource, such as in teaching.”

“This was a proud moment for the civil service, especially for valedictorian Tanya Williams-Taylor who works as a Personal Assistant Ministry of Government Support Services. This supports our development initiatives to build capacity and enhance skills across government and we are proud, therefore, to celebrate the success of these hardworking individuals.”

The Deputy Governor, the Acting Premier and Minister of Finance, Trade and Investment, the Honourable Washington Misick and Minister of Government Support Services Hon. George Lightbourne attended the graduation, which marked the 20th anniversary of the College, graduates from its first Bachelors programme and also its largest matriculation class of 109 students to date.

As the final nominees for 2014, this closes out the Spotlight programme for the year which was launched in January by the Office of the Deputy Governor in order to bring more positive awareness to the role and contributions of staff across government.

The programme throughout the year paid special recognition to TCIG’s Doctors, Principals, Teachers, Social Workers and staff of the Treasury, Project Management Division and the Immigration Task Force.
