Islands of the World Fashion Showcase To Celebrate Tenth Anniversary In New York City
New York City, New York - In recognition of the Tenth Anniversary of the premiere of the award-winning Islands of the World Fashion Showcase, the organizers will host the event in New York City on 1st and 2nd November 2018 under the theme “Paradise Takes A Bite of The Big Apple”.
Designers based in or with origins in the island-nations around the globe will be featured in the historic venue of 4 West 43rd Street in a mosaic of fashion and culture, fusing creations from resort and urban to red carpet and destination bridal fashions. Since its inception in 2008 the event has been hosted in Nassau, Bahamas, and featured 75 designers representing 18 island-nations and 3 non-island countries. The designers to be selected to present at the New York event will be those who have shown themselves ready for a global commercial presence.
Owen Bethel, principal producer of the Showcase, indicated that “it is timely that the Tenth Anniversary is celebrated in New York City as it not only represents the growth of the event as a catalyst for fashion designers from developing islands but also highlights the fact that the event was endorsed from its inception by an arm (UNESCO) of the United Nations based in New York, and which has played a pivotal role in identifying designers to represent their respective island-nations. This event affords us the opportunity to present to the international diplomatic corp, fashion trade and media located in one of the most important fashion capitals of the world. It will also be an opportunity to recognize the legacy and contribution made to the international fashion industry by Oscar de la Renta, a son of the soil of the islands.”
