CANADA
- Vancouver Fashion Week kicked off with a sparkling Opening Gala on
Monday, September 15th at the Queen Elizabeth Plaza. The Gala, hosted by
Vancouver’s own Mary Zilba was co presented with Anthony Lewis. Additional guest speakers will include Vancouver’s public speaker, traveler and activist, Patti De Sante.who launched the initiative,
Raising the Hemline,
a travelling public art "sit-in" utilizing the
canvas of couture fashion to engage communities in radical peacemaking.
The
gala show presented approximately 50 designers who each had one
signature piece walk the runway. Later in the evening a colourful full
runway show was presented by Olya Shishkina
a luxury woman’s wear label based in London, who believes in 'positive energy, joy full living and fairytale femininity period.' Her line would be perfect for Bahamas life!
Focusing on flattering
and simple silhouettes, the signature behind the brand is exclusive
digital prints which transform beautiful fabrics. Each piece is designed
thinking about the desires of real woman with unique, refined personal
style and an eye for detail and quality. Her designs were very well received.

This year marks a new
venue for VFW, and although seating capacity felt reduced, the event
went off very well. Media aside from TheBahamasWeekly.com representing
this year is Vogue UK, Elle Italy, Harper's Bazaar Argentina, and WGSN.
Vancouver Fashion Week will be welcoming over 70 international
designers established and emerging, representing over 25 countries
worldwide.

Abdourahman is hosting the biggest fashion week
Vancouver has ever seen. The Opening Gala was definitely a taste of the
week coming with plenty of emerging talent, and innovative fashion.
Returning this season is Evan Clayton, Green Embassy, Connally McDougall, Hong Kiyoung, Nikkie Babie, Pappillon, Shelly Klassen blushing boutique, Dawson & Deveraux and others. LaSalle College, a design school in Vancouver will be showcasing on Wednesday evening.
