On Friday, March 6th over 170 countries from many Christian denominations will gather for World Day of Prayer (WDP), a movement symbolized by an annual day of celebration – the first Friday of March – to which all people are welcome.  Each year the women of a named country share their faith and lives in the worship service with their sisters around the world. Last year's service was carried by Egypt and the
2015 World Day of Prayer Service was written by Bahamian women. It is open to all faiths.

Where possible Bahamians living in the areas of the services have been contacted and asked to speak, and or attend the celebration.  The WDP international  organizing committee traveled to The Bahamas last year to initiate the 2015 event, and met with Minister of Social Services, the Hon. Melanie Griffin.  During the visit the visitors were introduced to female Bahamian authors and artists.  The painting of Chantal Bethel's was selected for the event which can be seen on their website.

The events will offer a show or description of Bahamas' culture, history, land and legacy. Those gathered will learn about, "its many islands and diverse population. We see its beauty and its problems. In the service we are encouraged to joyfully follow Jesus’ example with them as they minister to the poor, the sick and the isolated."

The event guidebook for Canadian services offers Bahamian recipes, a brief introduction to The Bahamas; a children's program resource to make a shoebox diorama underwater seascape with shells,  a paint by number Bahamian flag, and a Junkanoo mask with paper, feathers and glitter.

WDP principles state that "taking turns in writing the service emphasizes that all are able to give and receive.  In sharing prayers, music, art and culture, we discover commonalities and differences that can be celebrated and can be enriching."

“Showing genuine interest in others is a positive step forward in maintaining unity among believers and reaching out to the community.”
