NEWS ITEM ON HURRICANE EPSILON ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FORECAST OFFICE SECTION AT 6 PM, SUNDAY 25TH OCTOBER 2020.

...LARGE EPSILON IS NEARLY EXTRATROPICAL AS IT CONTINUES RACING EAST-NORTHEASTWARD...

…HIGH SURF AND RIP CURRENTS POSSIBLE ALONG ATLANTIC BEACHES THROUGH MONDAY…

AT 5PM EDT, THE CENTER OF HURRICANE EPSILONWAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 46.2° NORTHAND LONGITUDE 44.3° WEST, OR ABOUT 420 MILES EAST OF CAPE RACE, NEWFOUNDLAND.

EPSILON IS MOVING TOWARD THE EAST-NORTHEAST NEAR 46 MPH. A FAST EAST-NORTHEASTWARD OR NORTHEASTWARD MOTION IS EXPECTED THROUGH MONDAY.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 70 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. LITTLE CHANGE IN STRENGTH IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS, AND EPSILON IS EXPECTED TO BECOME A LARGE AND POWERFUL EXTRATROPICAL CYCLONE TONIGHT.

THE NEXT NEWS ITEM WILL BE ISSUED AT 6 AM (MONDAY).

NEWS ITEM ON TROPICAL STORM ZETA ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FORECAST OFFICE SECTION AT 6 PM, SUNDAY 25TH OCTOBER 2020.

...ZETA STRONGER...

…LIKELY TO BECOME A HURRICANE BY THE TIME IT NEARS THE YUCATAN PENINSULA…

AT 5PM EDT, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM ZETAWAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 17.7° NORTHAND LONGITUDE 83.4° WEST, OR ABOUT 305 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF THE WESTERN TIP OF CUBA.

ZETA HAS BEEN MEANDERING OR NEARLY STATIONARY, BUT A GENERAL NORTHWESTWARD MOTION IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF ZETA WILL PASS SOUTH OF WESTERN CUBA EARLY MONDAY AND MOVE NEAR OR OVER THE NORTHERN YUCATAN PENINSULA OR THE YUCATAN CHANNEL LATE MONDAY, MOVE INTO THE SOUTHERN GULF OF MEXICO ON TUESDAY, AND REACH THE CENTRAL GULF OF MEXICO BY LATE TUESDAY.

 

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO NEAR 50 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS, AND ZETA IS EXPECTED TO BECOME A HURRICANE BEFORE IT MOVES NEAR OR OVER THE YUCATAN PENINSULA LATE MONDAY.
