Nassau, Bahamas - On Monday May 7, 2012, the world along with Bahamians witnessed the vitality and strong fabric of our democracy, and the strides we make to build a better country. The Advisory Youth Council of The Bahamas would like to congratulate The Rt. Hon. Perry Christie on his impressive and well earned victory.

We express our appreciation toward the Former Prime Minister The. Rt.Hon. Hubert Ingraham ,and on behalf of the AYC, we salute and thank him for his profound service and endless sacrifice of governing our nation over the past five years. We would like to commend the Parliamentary Commissioner Earl Bethel along with his brilliant staff for conducting an electoral process filled with transparency along with professionalism.

The Bahamian people choose a Prime Minister and a party that represents the values and principles we share as one country. The Prime Minister embodies the experience and the full capacity of leadership skills that are needed in our country now. The newly elected government laid out a detailed plan that includes creating opportunities and jobs for thousand of Bahamians, strengthening the middle class, doubling the investment in education, and with ensuring the safety of all Bahamians. We would hope the newly elected government carry out their promises of the first one hundreds days, but also understanding that circumstances can change , and the challenges we face can’t not be fix in one day or one term.

The campaign throughout the country has now ended and the ballots have been casted.  Those results are a symbolic expression that represents the frustration of a people and their dissatisfaction in their elected officials. We now have to move forward together and begin the healing process throughout our nation. We realize more than ever that electorate insist on leaders that reach out in consultation as they decided their future. And it’s clear that they refused to be excluded from government and political power. The Advisory Youth Council of The Bahamas is confident that this government will restore the people’s confidence in their ability solve the challenges we endure as a country.

As President of The Advisory Youth Council of The Bahamas, I look forward to the process of building and sustaining a new partnership with this government, as we consult and give advice on the issues that affect Bahamian youth. It is our duty to ensure that we hold all elected officials accountable .We expect nothing less than transparency, honesty, and integrity from our government, and we look forward to a government that works for the benefit of every citizen. We wish this new government the highest level of success, understanding that we are all Bahamian.

Together we are enshrined the colours of aquamarine, black, and yellow. The black equilateral triangle defining the strength and determination of a people, a symbolic definition that we are and we will always be one Bahamas. And we shall remain that way as we begin the robust conversation of shaping our country’s future.
