The Free National Movement finds the recent comments of PLP Chairman Bradley Roberts regarding the first 8 FNM candidates disgraceful and insulting to the intelligence of all right thinking Bahamians. It is without question, that in spewing such hateful and reprehensible attacks the PLP Chairman speaks directly for Prime Minister Christie and his failing government. In his typical, antiquated political style, Mr. Roberts viciously insulted the talents, qualifications and contributions of eight patriotic Bahamians determined to change the chaotic and challenging state of our beloved Bahamas.

These eight candidates recently ratified by the Free National Movement for the 2017 General Elections are proven professionals, with excellent records of service and entrepreneurship in their respective communities and the nation. They are strong leaders and God-fearing men and women driven by a profound sense of duty to political affairs and nation building. The typical 2017 Bahamian voter will expect and demand a diverse cadre of experienced, professional and civic-minded individuals offering themselves for high office. The Free National Movement has met these criteria with our first 8 candidates and will continue this trend with our subsequent candidates. This proves that we are listening to the Bahamian people. On the other hand, Prime Minister Christie, Chairman Roberts and the PLP appear eager to disrespect the wishes and expectations of the Bahamian voter for more qualified and progressive political candidates.

The vicious attack on the character and reputation of these stellar individuals is also indicative of the gutter politics preferred by the Progressive Liberal Party. Therefore, Bahamians should be further insulted and outraged that Mr. Roberts can find ample time to launch political attacks on the party opposite, but has consistently failed to adequately address national problems or outline any tangible successes of this current Christie administration. Prime Minister Christie in his desperation to hold on to power, has obviously endorsed Chairman Roberts' nasty and false characterization of these 8 qualified Bahamians.Nevertheless, both Mr. Christie and Mr. Roberts have well documented track records of insulting the Bahamian people during their long political careers. Considering their unimpressive and poor representation of Farm Road and Bain and Grants Town respectively over these many years, Mr. Roberts should have remained completely silent relative to the fitness or suitability of prospective members of parliament.

It is generally accepted that today, Bahamians are fed up with record breaking murders, unemployment, the burden of taxes, and a government claiming to ‘Believe in Bahamians’ but obsessed with satisfying and rewarding foreign interests with huge concessions. Prime Minister Christie knows his days as Prime Minister are numbered. He has cowardly unleashed his bullish Chairman to distastefully attack reputable, contributing citizens who will contribute significantly to his involuntary removal from office and his immediate retirement thereafter.

The FNM remains committed to its presentation of a 21st century cadre of intelligent and industrious candidates capable of creating a NEW BAHAMAS geared toward improving the quality of life for all Bahamians. Shonell Ferguson, Don Saunders, Frank Campbell, Leonard Sands, Dr. Duane Sands, Halston Moultrie, Howard Johnson, and Zendal Forbes are the first in a series of candidates to be announced. While Mr. Christie, Mr. Roberts and the PLP continues to insult the noble efforts of these competent and caring Bahamians, they hold firm to the ideals and philosophy of both the Free National Movement and a new and better Bahamas. The Bahamian people can rest assured that these strong candidates, their family members, colleagues, friends and constituents nationwide will respond to outgoing Prime Minister Christie and the PLP in the most powerful and meaningful way at the polls.
