Nassau, Bahamas - The following is a ratification speech by  Mr. Kendal Smith - Fox Hill, made on October 31st:

Today it is indeed a privilege and an honor that I Ken Smith, should once more be selected by the Democratic National Alliance to be the standard bearer for the great constituency of Fox Hill. It is with much excitement, anticipation and grave consideration that I accept this official invite to continued service to residents of this district and to my country at large.

At this pivotal juncture in the history of our nation, it is time for politics to become real. We as a people can no longer languish trying to build a nation on deception and lies. And while our so called leaders are busy playing the game of pride and profit, more and more often we as parents are left with the daunting and unbearable task of burying our children. Politics is not a game, the future of our children is not a game, the governance of this country is not a game. I have been asked why am I involved in politics? My answer, plain and simple, if my people were not hurting, if my people were not suffering, then I would not even be bothered.

For far too long now, the political leadership in our country have lived the lie. They, of the two other major parties, have used the formula, God, then self and then country. They, along with family, friends and business partners have grown increasingly rich, while the masses of the Bahamian people continue to suffer. They have soiled and sullied the sacred halls of parliament, using legislation and diplomacy to the detriment of we the Bahamian people, while exploiting the human and the natural resources of this our country as a means to their personal greed and gain.

To the residents of Fox Hill and the Bahamas at large, I say don’t give up, don’t you dare quit on your country and don’t you dare quit on your children. The wind of change is blowing ever so strong among us and there is a new level of consciousness that is being manifested and represented in the rising arm of the youth. This is our country, our home, our birth place and our birth-right and this is our responsibility to rescue, to restore and to rebuild it.

If you want a better country: roll up your sleeves

If you want a safer country: roll up your sleeves

If you want a greater country: roll up your sleeves

Politics has to become real. Just like your family, your country is your responsibility, no one can love it like you, no one should value it more than you and no one will take the burden of building it for you. This is the urgency of now, we the Bahamian people must rise up in solidarity and take control of our country and likewise in concert, take control of our own destiny. Now is that time!

Now is the time that we become the masters of our own economy and stop looking to curtail and run to Canada.

Now is the time that the current generation live out the true meaning of becoming a responsible nation and prepare to fight regardless of the odds, regardless of the cost, regardless of the situation to defend our rights our dignity and our country, even with our lives if need be. This is our charge, this is our responsibility, this is our obligation, this is our God-given duty to ourselves and to our children.

Now is the time that we who are blessed to have been bestowed with this Bahamian-birthright to stop hating each other and put our hearts and hands our heads together, to rise up and meet the challenge of rebuilding this Bahamian nation. This call to action is critical for as a people we will be casualties by just sitting on the sidelines. If we don’t take control of our country, those who come, those who infiltrate will dominate and take control of us.

To the residents of Fox Hill, to my fellow countrymen at large, I Ken Smith do humbly accept this charge to your service. May God bless the Bahamas and may God bless us all.
