Buscheme ‘Busch’ Armbrister, the sole offspring of Judith Moxey Armbrister and David ‘Rusty’ Armbrister has established himself as a focused, determined businessman and mentor and hopes to bring those skills with him into a long political career...

Nassau, Bahamas - The following candidates were announced on Friday, February 26th, the same day the DNA held a grand opening for their new headquarters in Nassau.

Candidates are Buscheme Armbrister, Emily Williams, Prodesta Moore, and Brenda Harris.  Their speeches can be reach below:

A New Beginning by Buscheme Armbrister

It is my distinct honor to stand before you today to represent the GREAT PEOPLE OF CARMICHAEL! The people of Carmichael are PROUD, RESILIENT, and RESOURCEFUL. The people of Carmichael are a diverse grouping of lower, middle and upper class Bahamians all of whom have a great deal to contribute to the national conversation. It is that level of diversity that has made this constituency impossible for any, one political organization to claim as their own. Instead, historically, the residents of the Carmichael constituency have consistently voted their political conscience and you have held your representative’s feet to the proverbial fire.

Over the past many years this area has seen unprecedented growth. Those of us that live in Carmichael, also work in Carmichael, we shop in Carmichael and we pay our bills in Carmichael. We have become a city within the city!

Sadly the massive economic and entrepreneurial potential of Carmichael is being IGNORED and STAGNATED under the policies of the current administration. Tonight, I’m here to tell you that what Carmichael needs in a NEW BEGINNING! REAL CHANGE! What we need is a government committed to EMPOWERING its citizens. As a small business owner myself, I understand the important role that entrepreneurs play in growing the economy and I have made it part of my life’s work to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit in other young Bahamians. Unfortunately, the high cost of doing business, and the unbelievable amount of RED TAPE continues to discourage other young people from doing the same.

As an aviation professional I am equally concerned about what can only be described as a lack of vision in this sector. The global aviation industry has doubled in size over the past decade with estimated revenue at more than 700 BILLION dollars! With the Bahamas currently leading the region in terms of its general aviation traffic we stand to earn a significant portion of that PIE and yet our government continues to enact policies which stifle the industry and its professionals.

In 1967 the Bahamas obtained majority rule, ending years of racial division and finally ensuring equity for ALL Bahamians Unfortunately, the politicians of today have forgotten the important lessons of that struggle and like the oppressors of yester-year the political elite have sought to hold on to the reins of power by denying young talented Bahamians the opportunities they deserve. Trust and believe me when I say though, that these Politicians are ON BORROWED TIME and come 2017 with your help the DNA is the vehicle by which we will be able to do JUST THAT! GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND GOOD NIGHT!

Prodesta-Moore.jpg
Prodesta Moore:Born July 17, 1962, Rozanna Prodesta Moore, the DNA’s proposed candidate for the Elizabeth constituency has established herself as an individual dedicated to youth development and a champion for the rights of women...

Reforming Society through Social Reform by Prodesta Moore

First let me start by saying good evening to the wonderful people of the Elizabeth Constituency who have placed an enormous amount of confidence in me. I pray I continue to be worthy of your support. Protocol already being established I would like to WELCOME all of you to this unveiling of this BRAND NEW HEADQUARTERS!

Tonight I am honored to share this stage with 3 of my colleagues and together we represent the very first Agents of Change which the party will unveil in the coming weeks and months. I am especially happy to share this stage with two very impressive women who I know without question, represent some of the best and brightest which our country has to offer. As an advocate for the rights of women and girls I am pleased to be part of an organization that values the ideas, and strengths of women. An Organization who has proven on more than one occasion that women are welcome at the table, within the party and within Parliament.

My fellow Bahamians we face difficult times. Our people are suffering. Young men are being incarcerated or killed at an astronomical rate. Our women and girls are being beaten, sexually abused or worse. Parents are unable to provide even the necessities for their families and according to the latest statistics youth unemployment in this country is the highest it has ever been.

Even as Bahamians suffer however, the political leaders in this country – including the PRIME MINISTER HIMSELF – seem OBLIVIOUS and OUT OF TOUCH! Comfortable in their fancy homes on the outskirts of New Providence or in the safety of their gated communities, these men and women who you have entrusted with the governance of the country COULD CARE LESS about what’s going on elsewhere in the country.

As a head of a non-profit organization, I am highly aware of these struggles. In fact, I have spent much of my life dedicated to SOCIAL REFORM! And I can say with certainty that in order for us to make REAL PROGRESS, to affect REAL CHANGE to IMPROVE the quality of life for Bahamians then WE MUST MAKE THE NECESSARY SOCIAL REFORMS! This requires a complete overhaul of social services as we know it and this means that we must work to provide focused training for social workers, execute major improvements to the social services centers, tighten the budget and address wastage, and abuse of the system.

Ladies and Gentlemen the truth is our country is too wealthy and our people too talented to simply suffer poverty at the hands of greedy politicians. The DNA has a focused way forward. WILL YOU JOIN US!? ARE YOU READY TO GO GREEN IN 2017! THEN WE’LL SEE YOU AT THE POLLS. GOD BLESS AND GOOD NIGHT!

Emily-Williams.jpg
Emily Monique Williams known best by her stage name “Sweet Emily” is a noted Bahamian songstress and performer, with a career that spanned decades and spawned such local and regional hits such as “Send him home” and her collaboration with legendary crooner Ronnie Butler “Look Wha’ Ya do”...

Righteous Representation by Emily Williams:

First let me pay my respects to Almighty God for in him all things are possible. Members of the clergy, members of the media, party supporters, my fellow Bahamians, welcome and thank you for coming. Next I’d like to say thank you to the leader, the deputy leader and the wider party for reposing such confidence in me. My name is Emily Williams Some of you may know me by my former Stage persona Sweet Emily. While many more of you may know me as an author and evangelist but today you’re looking at the NEXT REPRESENTATIVE FOR MARATHON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Today I want to talk to you about what’s missing in Bahamian politics, Its something I like to call Righteous Representation. Over the last 40 years we have had political representation that has only benefited those in political office. Politicians who have been more concerned with lining their pockets, and protecting their personal interest than with fulfilling their obligations to the persons who put them there in the first place.

In me, MARATHON you have a candidate dedicated to addressing your concerns. Those of you who know me know that my commitment to God is very important to me, My commitment to the people of MARATHON is also important and unlike the current representative MY Commitment is TO PROTECT THE INTERESTS OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES, and MY CONVICTIONS WILL BY NO MEANS BE SUPERSEDED BY MY DESIRE TO SAVE MY POLITICAL SKIN. When the people of Marathon were being poisoned by a gas leak and needed him to act on their behalf that’s exactly what the current Member of Parliament did.

Equally important to me is the promotion and preservation of the AUTHENTICALLY BAHAMIAN EXPERIENCE. FOR TOO LONG, BAHAMIAN CULTURE HAS BEEN UNDER ATTACK! SO LET ME BE THE FIRST TO TELL YOU…IF I HAVE MY WAY, JUNKANOO CARNIVAL AS WE KNOW IT IS OUT! WE HAVE SPENT FAR TOO MUCH MONEY, WASTED FAR TOO MUCH EFFORT ON A CULTURE THAT IS NOT OUR OWN! I SAY FROM HERE ON IN WE PUMP MONEY INTO WHAT IS OURS! WE PROMOTE WHAT IS OURS AND WE ONCE AGAIN LEARN TO APPRECIATE WHAT IS OURS!

Ladies and Gentlemen I believe strongly in the Christian beliefs upon which our beautiful country was founded. For me, this isn’t just about representation; it’s about Righteous Representation, and Representation you can believe in. MARATHON ARE YOU WITH ME!!! DNA’S ARE YOU WITH ME! THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU!

Brenda-Harris.jpg
Brenda Harrisa: On April 17, 1970 George and Cecelia Harris welcomed the 6th of their 8 children into the world. A short time later, however the passing of her father would leave Brenda Harris and her siblings to be raised in a single parent home in Englerston, where she watched her mother work tirelessly to provide for family...

Prudence is the order of the day by Brenda Harris:

Ladies and Gentlemen, you have had the distinct pleasure of hearing from two of my esteemed Colleagues. ARE YOU NOT INSPIRED? ARE YOU READY FOR CHANGE! We invite you and all Bahamians, to join us, in what will undoubtedly be the greatest Fight of our Lives…the FIGHT TO TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY.

My Fellow Bahamians, the past 4 years of PLP governance has been marred by scandals, tax increases and economic mismanagement. Despite all its promises, this Government has offered no real answers to the many challenges facing our nation

A stagnant economy, High Unemployment, escalating crime and the near collapse of our once vibrant financial services sector are just the tip of the iceberg. The question is: HOW DO WE MOVE FORWARD?

The simple answer is fiscal PRUDENCE. We must balance the budget. We must create fiscal policies in order to regulate government spending. There must be close monitoring and effective control on government revenues, to ensure that funding earmarked for specific government initiatives are actually used for those purposes. This coupled with the introduction of the Freedom of Information Act and anti-corruption laws will encourage greater levels of government accountability and transparency.

Albert Einstein once said: No Problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it”.

SIMPLY PUT: WE CANNOT DEPEND ON THE PEOPLE WHO CREATED THE PROBLEM, TO FIX IT.

Even members of this PLP government know this to be true. To quote the current Member of Parliament for Bain and Grants Town: If the system is not working, then the system needs to change and in order to change the system we must change the government.

I CANNOT AGREE WITH HIM MORE! We have every right to terminate a system that seeks to destroy us. The time for CHANGE is NOW! This government HAS to GO!

For more than 20 years, I have worked within the financial services sector and I have witnessed a steady decline of the industry, where hundreds of lucrative positions once held by Bahamians, have been outsourced to other Caribbean countries and international jurisdictions, also, there has been a countless number of closures of offshore financial institutions. In fact, in 2015 the department of statistics recorded a 36% decline in the number of jobs within this sector.

Many Bahamians are facing economic hardship, but none the less commercial banks are allowed to arbitrarily raise their fees, in some cases charging as much as ten dollars to cash one check. Added to the already exorbitant cost is Value Added Tax! HOW are Bahamians expected to survive? Why is a single mother on minimum wage, forced to give up her hard earned dollars, simply because she chooses to bank with a different institution. Yet, the Government saw it fit to bail out the Bank of the Bahamas of

its $100 million dollars contingent liability with taxpayer’s money and then turned around and re-elected the same board of directors and Managing Director who violated their fiduciary duties to continue to manage the bank.

My fellow Bahamians. ECONOMIC PRUDENCE IS THE ORDER OF THE DAY! TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY SHOULD BE THE WATCH WORDS OF A GOOD GOVERNMENT. THEY WILL BE THE WATCH WORDS OF A DNA GOVERNMENT. SO I INVITE YOU TO, COME WITH US AS WE CHART A NEW COURSE TO PROSPERITY! GOOD NIGHT AND MAY GOD BLESS THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS.
