Over the past several years, difficult economic times and high unemployment have left many families unable to meet even their most basic needs. Even more of us have been unable to afford the comforts usually associated with Yuletide Season.

The DNA has long been committed to meeting the needs of ALL Bahamians even at the most basic levels. As we did following the passage of Hurricane Matthew we once again sought to bring relief to struggling Bahamian families during this Christmas season. In the days following that storm the DNA quickly mobilized its local resources gathering donations from within our ranks and from corporate donors to launch an island wide feeding program which accommodate over 10,000 Bahamians from all sides of the political divide. With Christmas Day just a week away, the Democratic National Alliance set out to spread holiday cheer with its Hope for the Holidays Campaign.

On Saturday December 17, hundreds of Bahamians, mothers, fathers, grandparents and yes children alike were treated to a free day of family fun at the R.M. Bailey Park. The event which was open to all members of the public provided free food, clothing and gifts for all individuals seeking them. Christmas time is truly an opportunity to give back to those less fortunate among us. We are grateful to the many donors from inside the party’s ranks as well as the support of corporate sponsors whose involvement made the day possible.

As a citizenry, Bahamians can expect that the DNA’s Lighthouse will continue to represent their interests for the remainder of 2016, into the New Year and Beyond.
