Since taking office, this
PLP administration has neglected the mandate given to it by the Bahamian people
and has abandoned the litany of promises made on the campaign trail. Rather
than rescue struggling home owners through mortgage relief, the government has
stood by as countless more homes have been seized by the banks. Instead, those
families have watched as the Prime Minister, who failed to intervene on their
behalves, used his position to personally intervene in the mortgage affairs of
a man he called “a good friend.”
Similarly, the PM offered no
comment when it was revealed that a member of his government failed to pay his
own electricity bills while overseeing the disconnection of thousands of
Bahamian households. Most recently, the government intervened yet again on
behalf of PLP supporters and cronies, this time at the Bank of the Bahamas
where this administration has taken steps to erase the bank’s bad debt by
creating a new company to “bail out” those individuals who failed to meet their
financial loan obligations.
In all these examples, one
thing is constant. It is clear that this PLP administration is in the business
of Bailouts, unfortunately for the average, hardworking, law abiding citizen,
those bailouts are only made available to friends, family members and political
bed fellows of those in this PLP administration.
When, if ever will this
government finally come to the aid of the Bahamian people? The time has come
for all Bahamians to be treated equally under the law. What is good for the goose
must also be good for the gander. At a time when international gas prices are
at their lowest, Bahamians continue to pay exorbitant prices for electricity.
Yet, the government has made no move to bail out those Bahamians living in
darkness. Where is the economic bailout promised for unemployed and under
employed Bahamians? Where is the bailout for families seeking justice from the
criminal element?
As the Bahamas approaches
yet another election campaign season, Bahamians everywhere are undoubtedly
watching closely the actions of the country’s leaders. The question is what
will they find? How will this administration be graded by the voting populous?
The Democratic National Alliance gives them a failing Grade.
BAHAMIANS NEED A BAILOUT! And come 2017, the DNA will be that bailout.
Under a DNA government, transparent governance, accountability and equity under
the law will become the order of the day as we reclaim our country for the
benefit of Bahamians everywhere!
