 Over the course of the past five years, Bahamians have been forced to live with the scandals and failed policies of this corrupt and inept PLP administration. Even worse, the country has watched, many of us in utter disbelief, as the Prime Minister’s arrogance, and outright disdain for all things spiritual has ballooned to match the incompetence of his administration.
After using his middle finger to gesture to a crowd of Bahamian men, women and children the PM continued the erratic behavior which has characterized much of his re-election campaign at a weekend rally in Exuma. From the podium, with hundreds of God fearing Bahamians watching, Mr. Christie claimed that things were going so that God couldn’t stop him.
As a nation founded on Christian principles, the Prime Minister’s comments are indicative of the lack of deference which he and other members of his government give to the Almighty. It is the reason why the PM has been able to look the other way, even in the face of blatant revelations of wrongdoing and misconduct. It is also the reason why our country continues to suffer as a result of so many social ills. The young men and women of this country must see those of us in leadership as examples worth following. Instead what they have gotten is a Prime Minister and a cabinet whose sole intention has been to fleece the people of this country.
Equally distressing is the reality that this is NOT the Prime Minister’s first offence. Bahamians will remember similar comments made by the PM in which he asserted that Bahamians could pray to God but would still have to come to him to get anything in this country. It is this demi-god like attitude that continues to stifle real productivity in our Bahamaland.
As the next Prime Minister of this beautiful country, I vow to ensure a complete return to the Christian principles which once guided us. Unlike the leaders of today, the DNA will continue to look to God FIRST! The deference we give to our Almighty Father will be genuine and will pave the way for REAL, HONEST, EFFECTIVE, TRANSPARENT AND TRANSFORMATIVE GOVERNANCE!
