The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding recent reports of “dubious” contracts signed by the Ministry of Health during the Christie Administration:

“Sadly it comes as no surprise that the Christie Administration locked the Ministry of Health into $70 million in contracts without the funding to complete the projects, even sending down payments with no intention of finalizing the work. Looking back, this was another rush to implement National Health Insurance by the woeful PLP when in power, even though they lacked necessary capital improvements. They found it vital to their re-election, so the woeful PLP went into full campaign mode, deceiving Bahamians by acting as though they were searching for solutions but knowingly kicking the can down the road.

“It’s becoming increasingly difficult to believe the calloused PLP even cares about the struggles Bahamians face especially the ones most affected by their multiple instances of complete negligence that contributed to the downward spiral of our economy and core services.

“Look no further than their own response to the instance at the Ministry of Health, saying, ‘We make no apologies because we did what we had to do.’ If sending millions to start projects that they knew good and well would never see completion is what they had to do, their incompetence is unfathomable.

“Unlike past administrations, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis is paving a new way forward that brings hope and opportunity to all Bahamians, not only a select few. Despite five years of mismanagement and corruption under the PLP, the FNM Government will continue to demand accountability while remaining focused on improving education, enhancing infrastructure and bringing relief to the most disadvantaged, as Bahamians deserve nothing less from their elected leaders.”
