The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding today’s address by Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis:

“The COVID-19 virus is unprecedented in nature and the Government is taking the unprecedented steps to fight this growing, world-wide pandemic. Our Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis, understands the challenges we are facing and realizes that a crisis of this magnitude demands extraordinary measures. He also understands that while we are a resilient nation and our economy will recover, this virus is a life-or-death threat especially to vulnerable segments of our community. So we agree with the Prime Minister that it is essential that our leaders stand united and work together to take the necessary actions today to try to control the outbreak of the virus.

“The Minnis Administration is demonstrating in word and in action that its number one priority is the health and safety of the Bahamian people by taking swift and aggressive action to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This will require sacrifice from all corners to battle this unseen enemy. As our leaders are making clear it may seem exhausting at times and the economic effects dark, but if we battle together today we will weather the struggles of tomorrow together.

“Bahamians are resilient. We have faced desperate challenges before and we look to our leaders now to help guide us through this historically unprecedented fight. Our Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Minnis, will continue making decisions in the best interest of all Bahamians. We hope all our Government, religious, civic, business and community leaders continue to work together in unprecedented cooperation for the greater good of Bahamians.”
