Former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham delivered his resignation letter to House Speaker Dr. Kendal Major at the House of Assembly July 19th, 2012. This date represents 35 years from the date that that the former prime minister was first elected to parliament, confirming that his resignation from Parliament will become effective on August 31.

Mr. Ingraham confirmed that one of the most important reasons for his postponement is to allow his preferred candidate Greg Gomez, the opportunity to meet the one year constitutional residency requirement in order to be considered as a candidate to run in the North Abaco by-election on the Free National Movement’s ticket.
