Nassau, Bahamas - Hon. Dion D. Smith, Member of Parliament Nassau Village Remarks at the 2017 Convention:

There's a city of light where there cometh no night, 'Tis a city of beauty untold; All my treasures are there and its beauty I'll share when I get to that city of gold.

First of all, I wish to thank God. I also wish to thank my wife, kids, entire family and my campaign team. Of course it would be remiss of me if I didn’t thank the wonderful people of Nassau Village Constituency for their continued overwhelming support.

I can say candidly that as a first term Member who has had the responsibilities to serve as the Deputy Speaker of the House, the Chairman of Road Traffic and the Executive Chairman of BAIC, that this term was truly an awesome learning experience for me. This term has prepared me to serve in any capacity in the future.

Presently, BAIC is a wonderful place to work. I am supported by a great team of professionals who come to work every day and give their all. For that I remain grateful. It is sincerely an honor to assist in empowering our people by creating and supporting opportunities for Bahamians trying to make a living in light and creative industries, as well as agriculture. And also to be a point of contact for FDI in the storage of oil.

I now turn to Nassau Village. During the last four years I have worked very hard trying to impact the daily lives of the people of my community. Trying to help persons get jobs to take care of their families. I have also been working with the Ministry of National Security to have a positive impact on crime as well as with the Ministry of Social Services to improve the Social Safety Network in our constituency. I am fighting for more home repairs and garbage removal in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. I do admit, there is much more work to be done and I accept that there are many more people that need help. I just want to reassure you that I will remain strong and courageous while fighting for Nassau Village. I am ready for the future but I cannot do it alone. I need you Ducky, Ivy, Couzy, Glen, Bannister, Josey, Giant, Porper and so many more; I need you all to help bring about real change in Nassau Village.

Before I conclude, I must thank the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister for the confidence he has reposed in me. He has said privately and publicly that young members like myself will be the future of this great party and one day of this great country. I want you to know that I accept this charge like Joshua ordered the people to go to the promise land. Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, I will remain steadfast, focused, strong and courageous.

God Bless you all and God bless the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
