Nassau, Bahamas - Statement from Chairman of the Bahamas Mortgage Corporation, Sen. Hon.
Alex Storr refuting claims made by the Tribune concerning the audited
financials of the Corporation:
Once again for the 2nd consecutive day, the Tribune and staff reporter, Rashad Rolle, has printed untruths concerning the Bahamas Mortgage Corporation and it's audits. Despite the fact that the correct information is easily obtained by calling the House of Assembly, the Tribune insists on publishing inaccurate and false information provided by persons with a political agenda furthering it's perceived philosophy of not letting the truth get in the way of a good story.
In this morning's edition (May 20th, 2016) a front page article of the Tribune states the following, “ Gowan Bowe, of Price WaterhouseCoopers, the firm by the previous Ingraham administration to conduct audits, confirmed yesterday that the firm completed annual audits at the BMC up to
2010.” This statement is incorrect. According to the records at BMC the audits for the last ten years were conducted as follows:
• Price WaterHouseCoopers 2006, 2007, and 2008
• Beneby & Co 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013
• Kikivarakis & Co 2014 and 2015 (currently underway)
As was stated in the statement released yesterday, audited financials for the years 2009-2012 were tabled by the Minister of the Environment and Housing on May 27th, 2015, the audited financials of 2013 are at the Cabinet office awaiting approval for tabling and the audits are ongoing for 2014 and 2015.
It is quite unfortunate that for the second day in a row the Tribune continues to print information concerning BMC and it's audited financials that is not factual.
I asked the Tribune again to corrects its article as it is untruth and misleading the Bahamian people.
