The Government of The Bahamas over the past few months touted the Flag Football World Championships (FFWC) tournament as a major and beneficial event for Grand Bahama Island and the wider country. I have been advised and published news items support the same that on August 20, 2016, the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) revealed that the FFWC tournament that was scheduled to be held on Grand Bahama, September 8 - 12, 2016 has been cancelled. It is believed that based on this cancellation, the Bahamas National Team now becomes ineligible to participate in the World Championship tournament which was awarded as a result of the tournament beingstaged in the Bahamas. From all accounts, the tournament is set to be played in Miami, Florida, on the same dates previously announced.

Chairman of the IFAF Americas is said to have faced tremendous frustrations working with the Bahamas Government and other sporting bodies. This last minute cancellation, according to published reports and information relayed to me, will cost about 17 other countries tens of thousands of dollars and will hurt the Bahamas' chances to host future FLAG FOOTBALLtournaments of this magnitude. With a struggling Grand Bahama economy on the brink of apossible boost by way of this event and so many national team players and organizers who have worked so hard now faced with disappoint, the government should end its shameful silence and offer a detailed public explanation.

The chaotic circumstances surrounding this matter are yet another added chapter totheongoing heralded failures of this inept government. On behalf of the residents of Grand Bahama and the people of The Bahamas, I call on the government to shed honest light on this matter.
