Since I was announced on Monday, 11th April as the Candidate for the Democratic National Alliance for the constituency of Garden Hills it has been nothing short of a Category 5 Hurricane of well-wishers, phone callers and unsolicited visits along with calls to appear at places where you normally would have some particular reason to be there. All of this in just the first week!

Needless to say, I would like to thank the DNA for allowing me a chance to be their candidate for the constituency of Garden Hills. I could not have picked a better, more vibrant, motivated and ready for change environment than Garden Hills. Most importantly, I want to also send a special, heart-felt thank you to my executive team members in Garden Hills. I cannot win alone and when we win we will share this victory as if we all won seats in parliament.

Without question we like our chances to make a significant impact in this next general election. Not only do we feel that Bahamian people are in need of new direction, focus and leadership that can motivate, encourage and inspire them to do more and have more. But, we also like the feedback we are getting from the Bahamian people. We appreciate that tremendously. Because, at the start, middle and end of the day, the only thing we want to do is talk about how we want our country to progress, and at the very least a small conversation on how you can factor me into your plans about what you want from your country and from the persons you want at the forefront conducting business on your behalf!

The Garden Hills constituency is a wide area. It’s not as densely populated as some of the inner cities, or even its sister constituency, Golden Gates, but it has a wide area and a lot of people need to be seen and touched. We plan to touch as many!

What we also plan to do in Garden Hills is engender a newer sense of community involvement. For starters, there are a lot of groups, faith based and civic oriented, that a lot of the constituents are just not aware of. These groups do a lot of things that constituents can take advantage of, free of charge in many instances. We need to continually categorize and make people aware during our walkabouts of the things that are happening right in their own community.

Another thing we are focusing on in Garden Hills is that we’re making sure persons are sensitized to their surroundings, the people that move in and through Garden Hills and what happens with their neighbours with regard to overall security and surveillance. We have an initiative we are working on with regard to giving more constituents a bird’s eye view, of sorts. We need a lot of support for our Secure Garden Hills initiative, and we invite persons with the energy and support to make our ideas come to life. To this extent, please feel free to contact me or any member of our team about our Whatsapp Security Surveillance Group.

Lastly, and without sounding clichéd, we want to keep Garden Hills Green. No other constituency in this entire Bahamas can boast a name that lends itself to being Green. With that being said, my team and I are committed to the DNA’s platform principles set out with regard to greening areas in every constituency, keeping lawns and parks manicured and creating more green spaces where we can.

When the DNA comes to office, we will initiate a wide-scale green-zone initiative and a massive country-wide clean-up campaign. If you have been following our initiatives in this regard, through our Men’s Alliance in particular, we have been working diligently with regard to organizing area clean-ups. Our next clean-up is scheduled for the Strachan’s Alley area in the Farm Road Constituency as our team responsible for public outreach in conjunction with the other associations within the DNA come together to walk the walk!

Without a doubt I’m excited about being asked to represent the people of Garden Hills. I look forward to our walkabouts in Garden Hills and I look forward to calls and messages from all and sundry with an interest in seeing the best from Garden Hills.

Personally, I endeavour to be the most accessible candidate on the campaign trail in addition to the most responsive and communicative. Through mass-media engagements, as well as being allowed spaces in print and online media outlets, I will talk about issues affecting Garden Hills, my portfolio as a DNA Spokesperson for Finance and the Economy as well as speak on national issues overall where I can lend tangible input.

I would also hasten to add that I’m not particularly hard to find. I respond to phone calls regularly, I’m online frequently and can be reached by Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and all of the other widely used social media platforms including regular email.

In addition, journalists know how to get in contact with me if need be and “most” of them know how to contact me for comment, or know that I can be reached for comment or participation in any platform they allow for me.

With all of that being said, I wish all of the best for Garden Hills residents and I look forward to living the change we speak about --and will speak more to-- during our campaign.
