Nassau, Bahamas - REMARKS Dr. the Hon. Hubert Minnis, Prime Minister Commonwealth of The Bahamas 2018 Queen’s Honours Government House 9 July 2018 11:00 A.M.:
Your Excellency;
Cabinet Colleagues
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, good morning:
May I begin by wishing a Happy Independence to all.
I thank Her Excellency and the staff of Government House for such wonderful hospitality.
It is my privilege to briefly note our citizens who have been recognized for their appointments to various honours, as a part of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Honours.
These Honours have been bestowed in recognition of the tremendous, and stellar contributions, of these citizens to our national development over many decades.

These contributions have been made in myriad areas including: commerce, public service, the arts, medicine, religion, community service, civil society and other areas of national endeavours.
The late Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa, once said and I quote,
“Everyone can rise above their
circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to, and passionate about what they do.”
I congratulate those who have been appointed to the various orders.
Appointed as Companions of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and Saint George, are Mr. Mark Holowesko, Mr. Lawrence Cartwright, and Rev. Dr. Ranford Patterson.
This order recognizes those who have given important service in the Commonwealth and foreign countries.
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) is an order of chivalry.
The Order recognizes contributions to public service outside the Civil Service, the arts and sciences, and to charitable organizations.
Those appointed as members of this Order include: Mr. Antonius Roberts, Dr. Robin Roberts, Pastor Rex Major and Mr. David Thompson.
Your Excellency;
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Those appointed as Members of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for outstanding service to the community include: Mrs. Elma Garraway, Mrs. Nancy Kelly, Dr. Nigel Lewis and Dr. Jonathan Rodgers.
The British Empire Medal (BEM) recognizes “meritorious civil or military service.”
The recipients of the BEM this year include: Mr. Ronnie Armbrister, Mr. Willis Bain, Mr. Llewellyn Cartwright, Mr. Kendal Culmer, Mr. Elisha Miller and Mr. Quintin Woodside.
The Queen’s Police Medal (QPM) is awarded to police officers for distinguished service or gallantry.
This year, Mr. Anthony Ferguson has been awarded the QPM.

Ladies and Gentlemen:
At the heart of any system of honours is the ideal of service to humanity in general and to fellow citizens in particular.
A nation’s wealth cannot be solely measured in terms of economics and natural resources.
A nation’s wealth and well-being must equally be measured by the quality of service, and generosity of its people, in the promotion of the common good, and in the fostering and development, of the talents of citizens and residents.
We are blessed to have so many Bahamians who have contributed to the common good by rendering service toward the charitable, cultural, athletic, artistic, political, governmental, commercial and social development of our country.
In honouring those who served with distinction; we offer current and future generations fine examples of national and community service.
These honours express the grateful thanks of a people and a nation to those who deserve special recognition.
To those so honoured: I am sure that your families, friends and colleagues, are quite proud of you.
So too, your fellow-citizens, and the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
History will record your accomplishments, and the gratitude of your country.

I thank each of you for your service to our country, and for your contributions to national development.
