Nassau, The Bahamas – The Hon. Pakesia Parker-Edgecombe, new Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction, toured the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to become more familiarized with its structure and operations. She was welcomed by Captain Stephen Russell, Director of NEMA, and the administrative team at the Gladstone Road headquarters. Also present was Carl Smith, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction. Captain Russell gave an overview of the Disaster Preparedness and Response Act, NEMA & its Emergency Support Function groupings, and the National Disaster Plan.
Following, she was taken on a tour of NEMA’s facilities, and shown the technical upgrades to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).
