Nassau, Bahamas - In continuation of its Strategic Priorities, The Bahamas Development Bank (BDB) met with the Executive Manager of the Over The Hill Unit, Mrs. Samita Ferguson.

The purpose of the meeting was to explore how BDB could assist and empower the constituents of the Over The Hill community via access to credit for Micro and/or Small Business Loans.

Over the past four decades, BDB has extended credit to hundreds of businesses and entrepreneurs in various sectors such as manufacturing, fishing, services, transportation, tourism, etc.  This kind of facilitation translates to wealth creation, job creation, increased exports and import replacement, thereby transforming our economy.

The dialogue generated much excitement as opportunities were identified for collaborative efforts.  In the short term, BDB will give immediate attention to develop a Micro Loan Program to support the activities of the OTH program (i.e. repurposing / revitalizing properties for community farming, identifying and developing opportunities for craftsman, etc.).  Mrs. Ferguson welcomed this first step and remains excited about the possibilities BDB could offer.
