Bahamas Parliamentarians Enjoy Annual Christmas Luncheon

Nassau, Bahamas - Parliamentarians enjoyed the Annual Christmas Luncheon at the British Colonial Hilton following the last sitting of Parliament for the year, December 17. Prime Minister the Right Hon. Perry G. Christie and Leader of the Opposition the Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis brought Christmas greetings. The event commenced with an opening prayer delivered by Chaplain of the House of Assembly, Pastor Hugh Roach. Senator the Hon. Michael Pintard served as Master of Ceremonies, and President of the Senate, Senator the Hon. Sharon Wilson delivered welcome remarks.

During the traditional Christmas buffet, a few of the Parliamentarians called upon their musical talents to contribute musical entertainment -- Minister of Social Services the Hon. Melanie Griffin serenaded her colleagues with Christmas Carols; Minister of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Local Government the Hon. V. Alfred Gray played guitar; and Minister of Labour and National Insurance, the Hon. D. Shane Gibson played drums. Member of Parliament for Montague the Hon. Richard Lightbourn entertained with lively anecdotes and stories.

Speaker of the House of Assembly, the Hon. Dr. Kendal Major delivered the closing remarks, and the luncheon officially ended with a prayer delivered by the Chaplain of the Senate, Bishop Gilbert Thompson.
