Nassau, Bahamas - The following is a statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Fred Mitchell:

The Bahamas Consul General in Miami was informed today by the United States Diplomatic Protection Service of a specific threat by a specific individual on Facebook against the Consulate in Miami which has necessitated additional layers of security at the consulate.

This latest threat comes in the wake of demonstrations in Florida against The Bahamas over Cuban detainees.

The public is advised that the Consulate remains open for business.

Bahamians in Miami are further advised to exercise reasonable caution during this period in Miami.

The Bahamas has filed a formal note with the United States’ State Department over these matters. Additional measures are also being taken with regard to the security of all Bahamian interests in the South Florida area given this latest information.
