DPM Turnquest attends IDB Governors’ Annual Consultation in Kingston

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and IDB Governor, the Hon. K. Peter Turnquest led a Bahamas delegation to the Inter-American Development Bank’s (IDB) 7th Annual Consultation of the Governors of the Caribbean Country Department, February 26-27, 2018 in Kingston, Jamaica.

DPM Turnquest anticipated discussions today with President of the IDB, Luis Alberto Moreno, in bilateral meetings, on the IDB Country Strategy for The Bahamas and the status of existing and upcoming bank operations in the country.

The annual consultation of Caribbean Governors involves discussion on a range of urgent administrative topics, dialogue on IDB-sponsored developments in the region, and agreement on main agenda points for the Bank’s Annual Meeting in Mendoza, Argentina, in late March.

Meetings continue tomorrow morning with Sir Richard Branson and IDB Group President Moreno leading a discussion on the imperative for the Caribbean to act now to fully benefit from the digital revolution. 

In the afternoon session, the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, and Toomas Hendrik IIves, Former President of the Republic of Estonia, will present on leveraging ICT opportunities for advancing technical change in the Caribbean.

DPM Turnquest is accompanied to the IDB Annual Consultation by Financial Secretary (Acting), Marlon Johnson; Deputy Director of Economic Planning, Ministry of Finance, Carl Oliver; IDB Executive Director for the Caribbean Constituency, Jerry Butler (Bahamas); and Junior Counselor, Mavis Culmer (Bahamas).
