FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- Participants in the Fulbright App Development Program were commended by Minister of State for Finance and for Grand Bahama, Senator the Hon. J. Kwasi Thompson during the closing session on Friday.  Minister Thompson congratulated the participants, stating they worked through challenging times and completed the program.  Due to the COVID pandemic, the session was held via Zoom.

Minister Thompson congratulated the beginners in the group as they have now learned skills that may advance their careers or start their own businesses. For the advanced participants, he said he has been informed that they are at the point where they may be able to develop and sell their own apps.

“To me, that is extremely important and I’m very pleased to see that the advanced students have gotten to that point.”

Funds will be provided through the Tech Grant Initiative for those who have finished the program and qualify to develop their own business.

The program was sponsored by BTVI and Aliv and facilitated by the US Embassy and the Fulbright Scholarship.

He said, when rebuilding the economy of Grand Bahama, building the human capacity ought not be ignored and an initiative of the government is to “provide upskilling initiatives for Bahamians so that they will be able to take advantage of opportunities out there.”
