Hon. Pakesia Parker-Edgecombe
Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction
STATEMENT

It is with great appreciation and an overwhelming sense of patriotic duty that I accept the appointment of Minister of State bestowed upon me by our nation’s Governor General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Cornelius A. Smith, upon the recommendation of Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis. I am humbled by Prime Minister Minnis’ confidence in my ability to lead the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction.

At a time in our world and country’s history where there is a call for more resilient communities, due to major natural disasters and crisis, I look forward to working with the already established team to grow the ministry while continuing the work set in place by my predecessor, the Hon. Iram Lewis, whose future support, we welcome.

In this transition, I am grateful for the experience gained in my previous post as Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Information and Communications as well as Lands and Surveys.  I am proud of the various Boards, entities and their staff within the portfolio, inclusive of the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas, Bahamas Information Services, Bahamas Telecommunications Company, the Bahamas Plays and Films Control Board and the Department of Lands and Surveys.  It was a privilege to not only lead some of the brightest minds in our country, but also learn from them; I am forever indebted and wish only the best for them moving forward, while committing myself to always be available to help once called upon.

With every step I take, I do so thankful to Almighty God for His blessings, for the love and support of my family and friends, and for the opportunity -- on the shoulders of the great people of West Grand Bahama and Bimini, to work towards the betterment of our nation.  It is because of their faith in me, belief in what I have to offer to our nation’s growth, and constant encouragement that I am able to serve in this manner.

May our community of West Grand Bahama and Bimini remain resilient and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, prosperous and favoured by God.
