International Customs Day to be Observed on January 26th

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama - International Customs Day will be observed on January 26th, under the theme "Coordinated Border Management," announced Mrs. Michelle Collins-Rolle during a press conference on Tuesday to announce a week of activities.

The public relations officer for the International Customs Day Committee, Mrs. Collins-Rolle said that in 1952 the Customs Cooperation Council was established as an inter-governmental organization to enhance the effectiveness of the customs administrations around the world. The inaugural session of the customs cooperation council was held in Brussels, Belgium on January 26th, 1953.

During the 30th anniversary of the Customs Cooperation Council (now known as World Customs Organization [WCO]) in 1982, it was proclaimed that January 26th, 1983 would be the first International Customs Day.

The week of the activities will begin on January 21, 2015 with an In-House Raffle of a 32" TV. On January 26, International Customs Day, there will be the distribution of flyers about 'The Customs' new procedures and duty rates. Male staff of the department will mentor young men and make a donation of a lawn mower to Genesis Academy on January 28. A family fun day will be held on January 31 at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex to which all agencies of law enforcement have been invited. The final activity of the month will be a church service at Life Community Church, Polaris Drive in Caravel Beach on February 1.
