FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – In recognition of Remembrance Day, Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey, on Monday presented poppies to several persons representing those individuals or organizations receiving acknowledgement on Remembrance Day, Thursday, November 11.

Special tribute was made to Henry Kellman, the only known surviving veteran in Grand Bahama. Mr. Kellman was not at the presentation; however, his daughter Delores Kellman was attended.  Minister Moxey said she would visit him to pin him with his poppy later.

The Minister also acknowledged the contributions made by the 800 Bahamians who served in World Wars 1 and 2, adding this should not be forgotten by residents.

Mrs. Frances Heild-Simmons, widow of World War Two Veteran the late Neville Simmons, and Mr. Norris Carroll, son of the late World War Two Veteran Joseph Carroll were also pinned with poppies by the Minister.

Poppies were also presented to Band Directors and leaders of Youth Organizations for their support and participation in Remembrance Day Services on Grand Bahama over the years.

In attendance were Band Directors of Legend Marching Band, Pioneers Marching Band, Pathfinders Marching Band, Bahamas Brass and Junior Brass Band, and Youth Leaders of the Grand Bahama Council of Girls Guides, Scout Association of The Bahamas and the Grand Bahama Battalion of Boys Brigade.

Minister Moxey encouraged the community to wear a Poppy this week, and to attend the 59th Remembrance Day Church Service at Mary Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, November 14th, 2021 at 4 p.m.
