Nassau, The Bahamas – Minister of Health the Hon. Renward Wells praised the corporate aid that Aliv is providing the Ministry of Health in augmenting its contact tracing surveillance efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As The Bahamas experiences COVID-19, what is evident is that we must all work together to achieve the desired endpoint of prevailing over this virus,” Minister Wells said during a press conference at the Ministry of Health, on Thursday, September 10, 2020.
“One fundamental tenet of corporate social responsibility, is business supporting and strengthening communities of which they are a part. In this vein, Aliv continues to demonstrate its commitment to the Bahamian people.”
He said as part of the Ministry of Health’s exercise to augment the contact tracing surveillance efforts, a strike force was activated on August 4, 2020.
“Contact tracing is, without a doubt, the bread and butter of our efforts for early identification of cases and their contacts; and ensuring that only those who need to be isolated or quarantined are.
“The effectiveness of this effort requires not only human resources but also technology inputs such as laptops, tablets, cell phones, hotspots and the like.”
Aliv has donated 25 hotspots and 25 Alcatel 3X cell phones with pre-loaded talk time and data plans.
Minister Wells explained that these donated resources have assisted the contact tracing team in reaching over 7,000 persons. “This is real impact. This is the power of partnership. The Ministry of Health applauds Aliv for assisting in extending the essential call reach for this tracing process.”
Chief Aliv Commercial Officer, Gravette Brown said, “Aliv considers meaningful community service and impact to be one of our essential corporate pillars. It is how we actually turn ‘Believing in Best’ into action.
“Over the course of the past four years, Aliv has donated $3.2 million to various community initiatives; 20 per cent of which has been designated to the healthcare centre. This is just a small bit of that effort.”
She explained that whenever there are natural disasters or challenges, the company thinks it’s incumbent upon on it, not just as an infrastructure provider but as a digital technology provider, to support a nation and Bahamians who it is so happy to serve.
