Minister of Health and Wellness receives US Charge d’Affaires in Courtesy Call

NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Minister of Health and Wellness the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville received US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Usha E. Pitts, in a Courtesy Call on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

Also present at the Courtesy Call were: Colin Higgs, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health and Wellness; Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pearl McMillan; Dr. Cherita Moxey, Ministry of Health and Wellness; and Todd Sargent, Acting Political/Economic Chief, US Embassy.

Dr. Darville observed that the US has always been “a great friend” to The Bahamas. And, he thanked the US Government for its assistance to The Bahamas in ongoing efforts to fight the COVID-19 virus.  He further noted that his ministry looks forward to the continued close relationship during the pandemic.

On August 12, the US Government donated 128,700 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to The Bahamas.

Chargé Pitts noted that most of her tour of duty thus far, has been focusing on the COVID-19 pandemic, and that the US Embassy launched a number of promotions to encourage the public to get vaccinated.

Dr. Darville said the sites for vaccination would be expanded throughout the islands to accommodate more members of the public in the vaccination rollout exercise.  

As of October 23, 2021, a total of 127,567 people were fully vaccinated.  A total of 255,085 doses of vaccine had been administered.
