BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis encouraged Bahamian students to return home after completing their studies to take advantage of property, job and business opportunities available in New Providence and the Family Islands.

The Prime Minister was speaking at a special reception held for Bahamians living and studying in Barbados on Monday 17 February.

“We are building a country for you,” Prime Minister Minnis told Bahamians. “We want you to come back home and make a contribution.”

The Prime Minister pointed to Government programmes to increase access to land for more Bahamians through its service lots and land reform initiatives, grant and loan programmes for entrepreneurs through the Small Business Development Centre and new tourist developments in Grand Bahama and Abaco that will provide direct and indirect employment and business opportunities for hundreds of Bahamians.

The Government is also investing more in education, through its free tuition grant programme for qualified students of the University of The Bahamas (UB) and Bahamas Technological and Vocational Institute (BTVI), and the implementation of Universal Preschool, noted Prime Minister Minnis.

“My Government recognizes that we must prepare our country for the future. We are investing in our young people, said the Prime Minister.

Bahamians attending the reception also heard about the post-Hurricane Dorian recovery efforts in Grand Bahama and Abaco.

Prime Minister Minnis is in Barbados to attend the 31st Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

The two-day Meeting opens Tuesday 18 February. The Prime Minister returns to The Bahamas on Thursday 20 February.
