School Sporting Facilities Upgrade Committee calls on Minister of Education, Science and Technology

Nassau, Bahamas - Members of the School Sporting Facilities Upgrade Committee paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, the Honourable Jerome Fitzgerald on September 12, 2012. Several committee members including Mr. Evon Wisdom, Chairperson and Head of Sports Unit; Mr. Coleman Andrews, First Assistant Secretary-Physical Plant Section and Mr. Michael Foster, Consulting Architect presented proposed renderings for multi-purpose sporting facilities to be put in place in various high schools. Ms. Louise Forbes, Sports Unit Officer and Ms. Rhonda Grant, Sports Unit Officer were also on hand for the presentation.

Minister Fitzgerald commended the team for the planning that was carried out and encouraged them to move forward to the next stage which is to create a timeline for completion; itemise an estimated budget and develop further schematics.

It is proposed that the multi-purpose sporting facilities will include a FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation) standard competition pool area equipped with changing rooms; a kiddie training pool; a softball diamond; a baseball diamond; soccer and football fields; enclosed basketball and volleyball courts; and a tennis court. The facilities will be constructed in phases.
