Nassau, The Bahamas -- A $5 million Education Management Information System (EMIS) designed to track students’ academic performance, behaviour and attendance will be implemented by EDU 365 Group Ltd. in all of the public schools in the 14 Education Districts throughout The Bahamas during the next three years.

The Minister of Education, Science and Technology, the Hon. Jerome Fitzgerald made the announcement during the during the 2016 Budget Debate, Thursday, June 16.

“Implementing an EMIS is one of the priorities of the Ministry for improving student performance and addressing students who are not attending school regularly or not performing at grade level. It will support several critical initiatives of the Ministry, including the New High School Diploma and the Student Achievement Unit,” said Minister Fitzgerald.

“EDU 365 will use SIMS to track academic performance, behaviour and attendance of students. Capita One software that is used in conjunction with SIMS mines data from schools, districts and regions, analyses the data and identifies trends in order to provide decision makers with a real-time view of what is happening; thus enabling them to make data-driven decisions, develop policy and facilitate effective intervention.”

The Bahamas will have the best management system in the region except for the Cayman Islands, who has a similar system, said Minister Fitzgerald.
