The Bahamas Participates in the Observance of the 72nd Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China

On 29 September 2021, Her Excellency Dai Qingli, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, hosted a reception celebrating the 72nd Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. The list of distinguished guests participating both in person and virtually, was led by H.E. the Most Hon. Sir Cornelius A. Smith, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, and included the Hon. Frederick Mitchell, MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service of The Bahamas, and Sir Arthur Foulkes, Former Governor-General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.  Also participating were senior Government officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives of the local Chinese community and Chinese enterprises in The Bahamas and Bahamian Friends. 

Brief remarks were brought by Ambassador Dai, Minister Mitchell, Mr Gershan Major, President of The Bahamas China Friendship Association and Mr Tiger Wu, President of Chinese Enterprises Association of The Bahamas/Executive Vice-President of China Construction America. The festivities continued with performances by the Chinese Community Association of The Bahamas, the Infinity Band, the China National Peking Opera Company, Fred Munnings, E.K. Knowles and Keson Tinker.  

Following the event, Ambassador Dai invited Minister Mitchell to a brief first encounter during which matters of mutual bilateral interest were discussed, focusing on the donations to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, other offers of technical co-operation, and the continuation of good relations in the multilateral arena. Minister Mitchell expressed sincere appreciation to the People’s Republic of China, extended best wishes on its National Day and looked forward to working with the Chinese Embassy.
