NASSAU, The Bahamas - The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture's "Youth Outreach and Culture in the Park," held on April 7, 2018, at the Englerston Park and in the constituency of the same name, brought together youth, church and community leaders for a family-friendly experience.   The event is a part of community outreach, and a way to encourage and recognize the youth and culturally-minded persons throughout The Bahamas.

Member of Parliament Glenys Hanna Martin, Project Coordinator Henry Higgins, former Director of Culture and resident Linda Moxey-Brown, and Junkanoo cultural icon Percy "Vola" Francis brought remarks at the Official Opening.

Among the many activities were performances by various community and youth groups, including the The Bahamas International Drill Team; the Temple of Prayer Deliverance Ministry mimes and one of their young Christian rapper Leon Bodie; a boxing camp sampler led by icon Ray Minus, Jr.; talent contests; hoopla; and ringplay.  A number of fifth and sixth-grade students from the Columbus Primary School did a musical and choral-speaking rendition of the original Eunice Rose poem "Our Bahamian Culture"; and sixth-grader and Deputy Head Boy Derek Escarment performed an original poem entitled "The Road to Success".  Also, the food vendors were from the local community.

Youth Outreach and Culture in the Park, is part of a wider initiative that the Ministry has embarked on to support creative and cultural artists in The Bahamas, as it seeks to uplift the various neighbourhoods throughout The Bahamas.  (BIS Photos/Eric Rose)
